2023 Ford Edge: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Ford Edge is this midsize SUV’s last gasp. Ford announced it will discontinue the Edge after the 2023 model year as it continues its push toward an all-electric lineup. Therefore, the 2023 is a carryover model.

There is no shakeup in the trim-level lineup. The Edge will still offer the SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. All but the ST use a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine tied to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The ST benefits from a 335-hp 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on every Edge, regardless of grade.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2.0-liter 2023 Ford Edge delivers 21 miles per gallon in city driving, 28 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg in combined driving. Moving up to the ST and its 2.7-liter V6 means 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.

We are impressed with the Edge’s vast array of safety and technology features, plus its driver aids and infotainment systems. We like the Edge because it provides scads of passenger space, standard AWD, and an available potent twin-turbo V6 (ST).

With two rows of seats accommodating up to five, the Edge is a solid choice for many families. If you don’t want to pony up another $5,000 (or more) for something similar in an all-electric form in 2024, the gasoline-fueled 2023 Edge may be your last chance. Compare the Edge with the Nissan Murano, Toyota Venza, Honda Passport, Chevrolet Blazer, and Jeep Cherokee, among others.

Let’s see how the several trim levels differ.

2023 Ford Edge SE (starting at $37,945)

If the SE seems a bit pricey, remember it comes standard with AWD. Moreover, Ford stocks it with loads of convenience features and current safety and connectivity technologies. For example, the Edge comes with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 safety bundle. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure alert. Also among its features are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, and driver-alert warning.

Exterior features worth noting are 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic on/off LED headlights, and active grille shutters that help conserve fuel. The taillights and daytime running lights are LED, too. Inside, you will find dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth seating, and manually adjustable front bucket seats. Also standard are a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel with audio controls and Ford’s MyKey.

The Edge feels stable in cornering, thanks in part to a torque-vectoring technology that will, for instance, apply the brakes to an inside wheel to help this roomy SUV stay on its intended line. Cruise control is standard, as well. Unlocking the Edge is simplified with the proximity keyless entry, which includes push-button start.

Ford’s Sync 4A infotainment interface is commanded through a honking-big 12-inch touchscreen. It oversees a 6-speaker audio system, FordPass Connect with a Wi-Fi hot spot, and satellite radio capability. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are also standard.

Ford doesn’t offer any factory-installed options for the SE.

Adding the $1,495 destination fee to the SE base price brings the total to $39,440. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest and $0 down works out to about $744 per month. See 2023 Ford Edge SE models for sale near you.

2023 Ford Edge SE includes:

MyKey – This is Ford’s system for restricting certain behaviors like speeding for teen drivers. Owners can program each fob with specific restrictions.

Torque vectoring – It allows different amounts of torque distribution between drive wheels on the same axle. This shifting power means the inside wheel can, though automatic braking, turn slower than the outside wheel for sharper cornering.

Proximity keyless entry – If the key fob is on your person, the doors automatically unlock when you approach. Push-button start pairs with proximity keyless entry.

2023 Ford Edge SEL (starting at $39,345)

For our money, the most important features the SEL steps up to are power-adjustable front seats (8-way driver and 4-way passenger) and rear-park assist.

Other upgrades include fancier 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, faux-leather seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The inside rearview mirror becomes auto-dimming, and the power outboard mirrors add a heat function.

Ford does provide a couple of option packages for the SEL. First is the $1,250 Ford CoPilot360 Assist+. It gains you adaptive cruise control, evasive-steering assist, and navigation. The Convenience Package ($1,200) adds a 110-volt power outlet, fog lights, a power rear liftgate, and remote start. It also includes a HomeLink transceiver and wireless phone charging.

Adding the destination fee to the SEL base price totals $40,840. Financing for 60 months at 5% interest with $0 down works out to a monthly payment of about $771. See 2023 Ford Edge SEL models for sale near you.

2023 Ford Edge SEL includes:

Rear-park assist – Sensors in the rear bumper detect objects in the vehicle’s path when reversing at low speeds. The system then sounds an alert.

Power-adjustable front seats – The driver’s seat is 8-way adjustable, including lumbar settings. The passenger seat is 4-way adjustable but doesn’t provide lumbar adjustments.

Auto-dimming rearview mirror – Using photosensors, it recognizes bright headlights closing from behind, automatically dimming their reflection.

2023 Ford Edge ST-Line (starting at $43,100)

Think of the ST-Line as an ST without the twin-turbo V6. Well, not entirely, but it’s close.

To the SEL, the ST-Line adds all the features in the SEL Convenience Package plus blacked-out exterior elements like gloss-black 20-inch wheels. The front and rear lower facias are also unique. Inside, red-accent stitching sets off the seats, center armrest, and steering wheel.

You can still add the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ Package to the ST-Line and the Titanium grade.

Adding the destination fee to the ST-Line base price equals $44,595. At 5% interest, financing for 60 months with $0 down works out to about $842 per month. See 2023 Ford Edge ST-Line models for sale near you.

2023 Ford Edge ST-Line includes:

Power liftgate – Opening with a push of a button, this liftgate also includes a height adjustment.

Remote start – When you’re within range, you can start the Edge ST-Line from outside the vehicle with the key fob. It’s handy for precooling the car in summer and preheating it in winter.

HomeLink – This universal transceiver offers programming for your automatic garage door and functions like your home’s interior lights.

With the Edge Titanium, Ford emphasizes luxury. Like the ST-Line, it builds on the SEL and includes the Convenience Package features. It loses the ST-Line’s blacked-out elements for more brightwork and elegant interior accents. Replacing the SEL front seats are power-adjustable sport bucket seats (10-way driver with lumbar, 6-way passenger sans lumbar).

A hands-free power rear liftgate eases cargo loading. Heated power outboard mirrors get integrated turn signals. Rain-sensing wipers join front-park assist and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system in rounding out the upgrades.

You can enhance the Titanium with the Lux Package ($5,300). It has adaptive cruise control with lane centering, adaptive headlights, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and more.

The $1,500 Elite Package gains you 20-inch alloy wheels, Enhanced Active Park Assist, and some appearance upgrades.

Adding the $2,095 destination fee to the Titanium base price totals $44,595. Financing for 60 months at 5% interest with $0 down works out to a monthly payment of about $842. See 2023 Ford Edge Titanium models for sale near you.

2023 Ford Edge Titanium includes:

Hands-free power liftgate – With the key fob on your person, stick your foot under the rear bumper. The liftgate automatically opens.

Rain-sensing wipers – When the system senses moisture on the windshield, it automatically engages the wipers. The wiper speed adjusts according to the volume of the rain.

Mirrors with integrated turn signals – These are heated power outboard mirrors with turn-signal repeaters installed on their outer shell.

2023 Ford Edge ST (starting at $46,485)

The Edge ST builds on the content of the SEL.

Ford doubles down on the performance side of the Edge with the twin-turbo V6 paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. However, the upgrades don’t end there. Outside, the ST features sporty lower body cladding, unique front and rear fascias, 20-inch alloy wheels, dual-tip exhaust, and fog lights. The ST also gets a performance-tuned suspension.

Also making the grade are two 4.2-inch LCD driver-information displays and leather-trimmed seats with faux-suede inserts. Additionally, you get heated front seats that are power-adjustable (10-way driver, 6-way passenger) and have larger side bolsters. Rain-sensing wipers add an extra degree of safety.

Turn signals incorporated into the heated power outboard mirrors also increase safety. Enhancing the audio sound quality is a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

If you have another $6,000 to spend, you can add the High Package, which includes the features of the Titanium Lux Package but adds other pleasantries such as a panoramic roof.

Adding the destination fee to the ST base price brings the total to $47,980. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to a monthly payment of about $905. See 2023 Ford Edge ST models for sale near you.

2023 Ford Edge ST includes:

Turbocharged V6 – This 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. While stout, the ST still gets 21 mpg in EPA combined fuel economy.

Performance suspension – Tuned for sharper handling, this suspension provides more surefooted cornering.

Available panoramic roof – This elongated glass roof panel stretches over both rows of seats for a brighter passenger environment.
