2023 Genesis GV80: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Genesis GV80 is an impressive luxury SUV. Built to compete with the BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, the GV80 is a worthy competitor to the Acura MDX, Lexus RX, and Lincoln Aviator.

Capable of carrying up to seven passengers, the midsize Genesis GV80 is as functional as it is luxurious. When considering its lengthy standard equipment and cutting-edge technology, the GV80’s price seems almost inconceivable, at least to the competition. But pricing is Genesis’ ace in the hole, as is its industry-leading 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Offered with a choice between a 300-horsepower, 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or a 375-hp, 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6; the GV80 isn’t hurting for power. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard regardless of engine choice, which regrettably does not yet include a hybrid or plug-in hybrid option.

2023 Genesis GV80 2.5T AWD
(starting at $55,550)

If you’re not all about neck-snapping acceleration, the GV80 2.5T is more than adequate, especially after tacking on a few option packages.

Along with its 2.5-liter turbocharged engine and standard AWD, the GV80 2.5T features an 8-speed automatic transmission, self-leveling rear suspension, and variable-ratio electric power steering.

Genesis’ Drive Mode Select varies the response from the throttle, steering, and transmission gear shifts through five settings: Comfort, Smart, Eco, Sport, and Custom.

The 2.5T rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. Other exterior features include power-folding and auto-dimming heated side mirrors, LED headlights, LED taillights, and a hands-free power rear liftgate. Also standard are rain-sensing wipers, an auto-defogging windshield, and acoustic laminated front glass.

A proximity key fob allows locking and unlocking the doors simply by touching a button on the door handle. Once inside, a press of a button is all that’s needed to start the GV80.

The GV80 leaves little to be desired when it comes to safety. The standard equipment roster includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian-and-cyclist detection, junction turning assist (stops the vehicle from making a dangerous left turn across oncoming traffic), lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, and a driver attention monitor.

Adaptive cruise control keeps a safe distance between the GV80 and the traffic ahead, with the ability to slow or bring the vehicle to a complete stop, then resume forward progress once traffic begins to move. Automatic high-beam headlights dim when sensing oncoming headlights or automatically illuminate in situations requiring more light.

Along with a rearview monitor, rear parking sensors help the driver avoid bumping into objects behind the vehicle. To help prevent a potential accident when exiting the car, Safe Exit Assist alerts passengers to cars approaching from the rear. It can even be configured to prevent the doors from opening until the coast is clear.

Finally, a rear occupant detection system reminds the driver to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle. If the system detects movement inside the cabin, it will send a second warning by flashing the lights and honking the horn and, if equipped, can even send a message to the driver’s smartphone via the MyGenesis app.

Comfort and convenience features include faux leather on the seats and upper dash pad, matte-finished wood trim, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, and a 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seat with cargo-area electronic seat-release switches.

Beyond the requisite one-touch up/down power windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats, the 2.5T includes a heated power tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, 2-position memory for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and steering wheel, plus manual rear door sunshades and adjustable ambient interior lighting.

A visually pleasing 8-inch digital cluster with analog gauges awaits the driver, while mounted atop the center dash pad is a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. Navigation comes standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an AM/FM HD radio connected to a 12-speaker premium audio system. A wireless charging pad is also standard, as are four USB ports, two 12-volt outlets (one in the console and one in the cargo bay), and a 110-volt outlet located in the second row.

Genesis connected services offer several subscription-based apps that further integrate the vehicle, including status updates, remote start, stolen vehicle recovery, and more.

Genesis Digital Key lets you use your smartphone like a key, gaining access to the vehicle and starting the engine. You can even share your digital key with family members, turning their smartphones into a key, regardless if they’re two miles or 2,000 miles away.

Interior color options for the 2.5T vary by paint color and include Obsidian Black, Vanilla Beige/Obsidian Black, Vanilla Beige/Urban Ground, and Dune.

The GV80 2.5T offers two package upgrades.

The Advanced Package adds 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a power panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree Surround View monitor, and a turn-signal-activated blind-spot monitor that uses side cameras to show what’s beside the vehicle. Also included are ventilated front seats, a 21-speaker Lexicon premium audio system, monobloc one-piece front brake calipers, and rear automatic emergency braking.

Remote Smart Parking assist is also included and can remotely parallel or perpendicular park while the driver is outside the vehicle controlling the action via the key fob.

The Prestige Package requires the Advanced Package and brings 22-inch wheels, an electronically controlled suspension, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, 3-zone climate control, and heated second-row seats. Other upgrades include 16-way power front seats with power cushion extension, power side bolsters, and a massage feature for the driver.

Active noise control helps quiet the interior from obnoxious external noise. At the same time, Forward Attention Warning uses cameras to monitor the driver’s behavior and warn if it detects drowsy or distracted driving.

With the $1,095 delivery charge, the 2023 Genesis GV80 2.5T AWD costs $56,645. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $1,018. See 2023 Genesis GV80 2.5T AWD models for sale

2023 Genesis GV80 2.5T AWD includes:

  • Hands-free power liftgate – With the key fob in your possession, you need only approach the liftgate and stand behind it for about three seconds, at which point the liftgate will automatically open.
  • Heated steering wheel – Quickly warms the rim and makes gripping the wheel far less uncomfortable on cold winter days.
  • Navigation – Standard GPS navigation helps to get you where you’re going quickly. The system is programable in various ways, including voice commands or writing out an address on the remote controller touchpad.
  • Driver assists – From automatic emergency braking to warning of vehicles in your blind spot, the GV80’s standard suite of driver assists ensures you’ll always have a co-pilot watching your back.

2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD
(starting at $62,700)

Building off the 2.5T AWD, the 3.5T AWD adds a more powerful 375-hp, twin-turbocharged V6 engine, monobloc front brakes, and 20-inch alloy wheels. An electronically controlled suspension uses front cameras to see upcoming road conditions (think rough or uneven pavement) and adjusts the shock absorbers to compensate.

In addition to the 2.5T’s standard equipment, the 3.5T includes a power panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats.

Optional for the GV80 3.5T are the following upgrades:

The Advanced Package includes leather upholstery, the Surround View Monitor, a blind-spot monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, rear automatic emergency braking, Lexicon premium audio, a head-up display, three-zone climate control, heated second-row seats, and 16-way power front seats with massaging driver’s seat.

The Prestige Package requires the Advanced Package and brings 22-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather seating upholstery and suede headliner, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, power and ventilated second-row seats, power door closers, power rear sunshades, second-row lighted vanity mirrors, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

The Prestige with Matte Paint Package has the same features as the Prestige Package but with matte chrome trim and matte paint colors.

Interior colors are the same as the 2.5T, with one additional choice: Smoky Green.

With the $1,095 delivery charge, the 2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD costs $63,795. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $1,146. See 2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD models for sale

2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD includes:

  • Panoramic sunroof – Opens the interior to more light and fresh air, with a power sunshade to cover all or part of the glass when needing more privacy.
  • Available digital instrument cluster – The optional 12.3-inch digital cluster features vivid graphics and is configurable to suit the driver. It also allows the camera-based blind-spot monitor to display a side-view image over the speedometer (when signaling to turn left) or the tachometer (when signaling right).
  • Available Lexicon audio – With a 1,050-watt, 14-channel amplifier, the Lexicon system places 21 speakers in 17 strategic locations, including two under-seat subwoofers. The result is bold, loud, and rich acoustic reproduction worthy of Genesis’ top-line SUV.
  • Twin-turbocharged V6 – The GV80’s 3.5-liter V6 makes 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque for an impressive power boost when needed. Intercooled twin turbochargers ensure instantaneous acceleration with minimal turbo lag.

2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD Advanced + (starting at $70,600)

The 3.5T Advanced+ is an odd trim. It combines all the standard features of the 3.5T AWD plus the contents of the Advanced Package, then adds a power-folding 50/50 third-row seat. That’s it. There’s not even a single option or package for this trim.

With the $1,095 delivery charge, the 2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD Advanced+ costs $71,695. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to approximately $1,288. See 2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T AWD Advanced + models for sale

FAQ

  • What is the best 2023 Genesis GV80 trim?

As we said earlier, if you’re not all about lightning-fast acceleration, the 2.5T AWD with the Advanced and Prestige Packages would be our choice. It provides all the luxury and technology features expected of a Genesis with more than reasonable power and fuel economy.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2023 Genesis GV80 get?

The base 2.5T AWD achieves an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city/25 mpg highway/22 mpg combined. The more powerful 3.5T AWD earns slightly lower figures, getting 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.

  • Which 2023 Genesis GV80 offers the most safety?

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash testing, the Genesis GV80 earned a 5-Star overall rating, with five stars in the side-impact test and four stars in the frontal collision and rollover tests.

The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the GV80 its highest ranking of Good in all crash tests and awards it a Top Safety Pick + accolade.

While all GV80 trims perform well in crash tests, we’d pick one with the additional driver aids, either the 3.5T or 2.5T with the Advanced Package.
