The 2021 Audi Q7 comes in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels. Four-cylinder models (called the Q7 45 TFSI) are limited to the Premium and Premium Plus trims, while the 6-cylinder Q7s (Q7 55 TFSI) are available in each trim. The
Q7 Premium ($55,945) comes with 19-in wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, keyless entry/ignition, a hands-free power liftgate, LED headlights,
automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot warning system and a push-button start. What’s more, the Q7 Premium has selectable drive modes (including an ‘off-road’ setting) and tri-zone automatic climate control along with heated front seats, a power-folding third row seat, a navigation system and wireless
Premium Plus ($58,195) have the Convenience package as standard, plus a 360degree camera, Audi Virtual Cockpit digital gauges, a 19-speaker Bose audio system and 20-inch alloy wheels A number of options are also available for the Premium Plus, including air suspension and Warm Weather package that adds 4-zone automatic climate control and sunshades for the rear windows and tailgate. If you want
adaptive cruise control, it’s available as part of the Driver Assistance Package. The
Q7 Prestige ($72,995) is available only with the V6. This is a loaded Q7 with air suspension, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, 4-zone automatic climate control and matrix-design LED headlights Options on the Q7 Prestige include a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, night vision (with pedestrian/large animal detection), laser headlights, 4-wheel steering and an upgraded leather package. Massaging front seats are available, too, along with stylish Alcantara headliner. The Q7 has 14.8 cu ft. of cargo space behind its third row. The Mercedes-Benz GLE has 22 cu ft behind its optional third row. With both rows of seats folded, the Q7 has 71.6 cu ft. of cargo volume. The max tow rating for the 4-cylinder Q7 is 4,400 pounds; V6 models are rated for up to 7,700.
While the 2021 Audi Q7 comes standard with forward-collision mitigation (with pedestrian detection) and a blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control and other technologies like lane-keep assist available only as part of a package or are limited to upper trims. Also worth noting: Rear side airbags are optional on the Q7. They should be standard on such a refined (and expensive) family hauler. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the Q7 a maximum score of five stars overall. In testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Q7 earned top marks in all crashworthiness categories.
2022 Audi Q7 vs the competition
2021 Genesis GV80 – The all-new GV80 is
Genesis’ first SUV and looks to offer exceptional value — not to mention three rows of seats. As with the Q7, two turbocharged engines are available.
2020 Volvo XC90 – Similar to the Q7 in size and shape, the
XC90 offers a refreshing Scandinavian take on European Luxury. This is one of the Q7’s closest competitors.
2020 Kia Telluride – While it isn’t technically a luxury SUV, the
Telluride and its
Hyundai Palisade cousin both offer luxury-SUV content at a mainstream price. It’s amazing how much vehicle you can get for less than $50,000.
2020 Acura MDX – Although this 3-row SUV comes with
Honda reliability and sensibility, the
MDX is sorely in need of a redesign.
2020 BMW X5 – A little smaller than the Q7, the
X5 is big on driver engagement. It offers a third row, but it’s really only suited for kids.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class – The
GLE comes with an optional third row, but it’s tight.
2021 Volkswagen Atlas – The 3-row VW is roomier and considerably less expensive, but it doesn’t have the impressive solidity of the Q7.
Used Mercedes-Benz GL-Class – The super-capable GL (now called the
GLS) has an adult-sized third row. But a new GLS is more expensive than the Q7, so you might go the certified pre-owned (CPO) route if your kids are already taller than you.
