2023 Jeep Gladiator: Choosing the Right Trim

In the 2023 Jeep Gladiator, you get the best off-road attributes of the venerable Jeep Wrangler with the added versatility of a small pickup truck. At five feet, the Gladiator’s bed can hold a good deal of equipment. With the tailgate lowered, it can even accommodate dirt bikes or a snowmobile.

For now, Jeep’s 4xe hybrid electric powertrain option remains off limits to the Gladiator. Still, everything else about the Wrangler, from its numerous removable roof options to its off-road upgrades, is here for the taking.

With four trims and five additional sub-trims, the Gladiator offers something for everyone and certainly more variety than you’ll find with a Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road, Ford Ranger Raptor, or Chevy Colorado Z71.

2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport (starting at $37,375)

Like all Gladiator trims, the Sport comes standard with a 285-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. In the case of the Sport, it’s paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and Jeep’s Command-Trac part-time shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel drive (4WD).

An 8-speed automatic is optional and includes Jeep Selec-Speed, which acts like a low-speed cruise control when driving in low-range 4WD.

Jeep equips the Sport with heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, brakes, and shocks, with skid plates covering the 22-gallon fuel tank and transfer case to ensure its off-road cred is intact.

There’s a Class II trailer hitch, a 7- and 4-pin wiring harness, trailer sway control, plus front and rear tow hooks.

Optional upgrades include a limited-slip rear differential, a cold air intake system, and a 4:10:1 axle ratio.

The Sport features 17-inch steel wheels with 32-inch all-season tires and full steel doors with manual windows and an old-fashioned key-operated door lock. Also standard are fog lights, manual side mirrors, variable wipers, and a full-size spare mounted under the truck bed.

Jeep’s Sunrider soft top features a removable rear window, and you can remove the entire top for true open-air adventuring.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find a push-button starter, manual air conditioning, and manual cloth bucket seats with driver’s side height adjustment and two-way lumbar support. You also get a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with Bluetooth, audio, and cruise controls.

The Gladiator Sport comes standard with an 8-speaker AM/FM radio connected to the Uconnect 4 infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, as do integrated voice control, two USB ports, and an auxiliary audio input jack.

SiriusXM satellite radio is optional.

Safety equipment includes a rear backup camera, electronic traction and stability control, electronic roll mitigation, front seat-mounted side airbags, and hill start assist.

The Sport offers several exterior upgrades. These include half doors with removable plastic windows, the Freedom Top 3-piece hardtop roof, a spray-in bedliner, and hard or soft bed covers.

A mirror-off kit fixes the side mirrors to the body, which is necessary when removing the doors. Also notable: The Sunrider soft top can be attached to the Freedom Top hardtop, creating a manual sliding roof directly above the driver.

The Sport offers a few packages, primarily aimed at towing.

The Trailer Tow Package features heavy-duty engine cooling, a Class IV hitch, and Jeep’s Trailer-Hitch Zoom, which uses the rear camera to project a view over the hitch with 4x zoom capability.

The Max Tow Package adds even more features, such as a limited-slip differential, heavy-duty Dana 44 wide axles, a 4:10:1 rear axle, and heavy-duty brakes. With this package, the Gladiator’s tow rating increases to 6,250 pounds.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport costs $38,970. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $700. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport includes:

  • Removable soft top – Jeep’s newest soft tops are far less complicated to remove or install, making it easy to go fully open-air in no time.
  • Android Auto/Apple CarPlay – These systems give you access to your messages, music, and navigation via the Gladiator’s infotainment system.
  • 3.6-liter V6 – This powerful engine provides plenty of torque for merging and passing on the highway or powering over boulders when off-roading.

2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys Sport (starting at $40,080)

The Willys is an upgrade package for the Sport trim, adding 17-inch black alloy wheels, mud-terrain tires, body-colored fender flares, and a black grille.

Additional equipment includes heavy-duty shocks, a limited-slip rear differential, and an available 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine with an 8-speed automatic.

Options for the Willys Sport mirror those of the Sport trim, but without the Max Tow Package.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys Sport costs $41,675. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $749. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys Sport models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport S (starting at $41,170)

Like the Willys, the S package adds to the Sport, bringing more standard features and options.

The S gets 17-inch alloy wheels in silver, heated side mirrors, power windows, power door locks, a power tailgate lock, remote keyless entry, automatic headlights, and fog lamps.

Optional equipment over the base Sport includes the Dual Top Group featuring soft and hard tops, navigation, and a 522-watt 9-speaker Alpine Premium audio system.

An available removable wireless Bluetooth speaker lets you take tunes anywhere within range of the Gladiator’s infotainment system.

Sport S buyers can upgrade to the Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine.

There are numerous option packages for the Sport S.

Highlights from the 8.4-inch Radio and Premium Audio Group include an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Alpine Premium audio upgrade, a 400-watt inverter, navigation, automatic climate control, rear-seat USB charge ports, and access to Unconnect and SiriusXM services.

One more innovative feature is Off-Road Pages. The system, accessed via a button on the dash or an app on the touchscreen, displays various pages showing drivetrain information, current altitude, and auxiliary gauges such as oil pressure and transmission temperature.

There’s also a pitch-and-roll screen and a trail camera.

The Active Safety Group adds a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and LED taillamps.

Jeep’s Trail Rail Management System adds a 400-watt inverter, 115-volt outlet in the bed, and a lockable rear under-seat storage bin.

Optional safety upgrades include adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Other upgrades bundled into various packages include a remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, LED headlights, and LED fog lights.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport S costs $42,765. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $768. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Sport S models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Freedom (starting at $46,465)

The Freedom is a limited-edition package celebrating the men and women of the U.S. military. It builds off the Sport S with special military-themed interior and exterior styling treatments, LED headlights, a winch-capable steel front bumper, steel rock rails, and unique 17-inch black wheels.

Optional equipment essentially copies that offered on the Sport S but without the diesel engine option.

With each sale, Jeep will donate $250 to military charities.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Freedom costs $48,060. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $864. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Freedom models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys (starting at $45,215)

Building off the Willys Sport, this package adds more content from the optional equipment list, such as fog lights, automatic headlights, a power-locking tailgate, and heated side mirrors.

Also standard are power windows, power locks, proximity key keyless entry, a configurable 7-inch instrument cluster, remote start, automatic climate control, and SiriusXM satellite radio.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys costs $46,810. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $841. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Overland (starting at $46,975)

The Overland ups the Gladiator’s luxury quotient, bringing more creature comforts over what’s available on the Sport and Willys trims.

Overland buyers can opt for the standard 3.6-liter V6 or EcoDiesel V6, but either way, they’ll get an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Notable standard features include automatic air conditioning, power heated side mirrors, 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels, LED ambient interior lighting, and a configurable 7-inch instrument cluster.

The Uconnect 4C Nav infotainment system comes standard, with GPS navigation and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Also included are the 9-speaker Alpine Premium audio system, a 115-volt outlet, and a rear center console with two USB charge ports.

Beyond the option package already listed for the Sport S and Willys, the Overland offers a grille-mounted forward-facing camera and leather seating.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Overland costs $48,570. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $873. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Overland models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Overland includes:

  • Alpine premium audio – This is far better than the stock stereo. It’s capable of blasting music above the din of rushing air when the top’s off.
  • Available adaptive cruise control – This advanced cruise control system automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and can even slow or stop the Gladiator in response to traffic flow.
  • Available diesel engine – The EcoDiesel V6 offers superior torque compared to the gas V6. The fuel economy is better, too.

2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon (starting at $49,715)

In the Jeep world, the Rubicon name symbolizes the ultimate in off-road ability. For the Gladiator, that means a beefed-up suspension and drivetrain, as well as more visual upgrades like its dual vented hood, red tow hooks, and Rubicon decals.

Underneath, you’ll find Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, a 4:10:1 rear axle ratio, heavy-duty Dana 44 wide axles, and Jeep’s Rock-Trac part-time 4WD system with a 4:1 low gear ratio.

The Rubicon features an electronic disconnecting front sway bar for greater wheel articulation, Fox 2.0 performance shocks, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch all-terrain tires.

Included in the terrain mode settings is one for Off-Road Plus, which locks the rear axle at high speeds, an important feature when driving through sand or snow.

Standard amenities for the Rubicon include the Uconnect 4C Nav infotainment system, Alpine Premium audio, automatic climate control, a configurable 7-inch instrument cluster, a 115-volt outlet, and an off-road switch bank.

Rubicon buyers can opt for a 4:1 Rock-Trac full-time 4WD system, a winch-capable steel front bumper, forward-facing camera, mud-terrain tires, and leather seats.

The Rubicon offers many of the Sport S and Overland option packages. You can get features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a blind-spot monitor, and LED lighting for the headlights, fog lights, and DRLs.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon costs $51,310. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $922. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon includes:

  • Tru-Lok – This electronic system allows both axles to lock, ensuring that all four wheels get power.
  • Low-speed crawl – With its Rock-Trac 4:1 gearing, the Rubicon can achieve a snails-pace 84:1 crawl ratio (when equipped with the 6-speed manual).
  • Electronic disconnecting sway bar – By electronically disconnecting the front sway bar, the front wheels have a greater up/down range of motion.

2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave (starting at $49,320)

Looking for a Gladiator with more of a desert vibe? Check out the Mojave. With a little of Overland’s luxury and the Rubicon’s off-road ability, the Mojave touts an integrated hood scoop, 17-inch gloss black wheels, and 33-inch all-terrain tires.

It borrows the heavy-duty Dana 44 wide front and rear axles from the Rubicon and the 4:10:1 rear axle but retains the base model’s Command-Track part-time 4WD.

The Off-Road Plus mode and Fox external reservoir shock absorbers further the Mojave’s off-road credentials. Two-piece high-clearance black fender flares allow for larger tires, while cab rock rails help protect the Gladiator when off-roading.

Other standard equipment includes a 400-watt inverter, a power tailgate lock, off-road info pages, the Uconnect 4C navigation radio, the Alpine premium sound system, and a sport bar with full padding.

Unlike the Overland, however, the EcoDiesel V6 is not offered on the Mojave.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave costs $50,915. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $915. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave models for sale

2023 Jeep Gladiator Mojave includes:

  • Fox shocks – Designed to effectively dissipate heat, these lightweight aluminum performance shocks are the perfect addition to the Mojave’s suspension.
  • Available leather seats – Another way to upgrade the Mojave’s interior to be luxurious, these seats are easy to clean.
  • Available remote start – Start the Gladiator from the comfort of your home. Warm the interior time before you jump in.

2023 Jeep Gladiator High Altitude (starting at $54,475)

The High Altitude is the top-of-the-line Gladiator, building off the Overland and adding features like a body-color Freedom hardtop and 20-inch gloss black wheels.

Luxury touches include quilted Nappa leather seats, premium door trim panels, a wrapped instrument panel bezel with caramel stitching, and LED lighting.

A blind-spot monitor, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert complete the safety upgrades.

The High Altitude includes a sport suspension, heavy-duty Dana 44 wide axles, and sport shock absorbers.

Options beyond the Overland’s offerings include premium McKinley-trimmed leather seats and the deletion of the half-door option.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator High Altitude costs $56,070. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $1,008. See 2023 Jeep Gladiator High Altitude models for sale

What is the best 2023 Jeep Gladiator trim?

We’d pick the Sport S or Willys for its additional engine and options upgrades. These two trims offer an excellent combination of value and available features without busting the bank.

If serious off-roading is your goal, then the Gladiator Rubicon is the best choice.

How many miles per gallon does the 2023 Jeep Gladiator get?

When equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 and 6-speed manual transmission, the Gladiator gets 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. Adding the 8-speed automatic changes it to 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg combined.

The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel gets 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway/24 mpg combined. In a diesel Rubicon, those fuel economy figures drop by one mpg.

Which 2023 Jeep Gladiator trim offers the most safety?

In government crash tests, the Gladiator scored four out of five stars in the frontal collision test and three stars in the rollover test. There was no side-impact testing.

We’d pick any trim that has (or offers) driver aids like a blind-spot monitor, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
