The Mercedes-EQ EQS is the flagship sedan of the Mercedes-EQ electric sub-brand. It has many of the virtues of the iconic S-Class as a well-appointed luxury sedan. Still, it has a low stance, a futuristic aesthetic, and — most importantly — an all-electric powertrain. The EQS competes with the likes of the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and BMW i7.
There are four distinct models in the EQS lineup. The base model is the EQS 450+, the EQS 450 4Matic is a new addition for 2023, the EQS 580 has better performance and more tech features, and the AMG EQS is a high-performance electric sports sedan.
Within those four models are three trims: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. The higher you go in the trim range, the more luxurious each gets.

2023 Mercedes-EQ EQS 450+: $104,400
The Mercedes-EQ EQS 450+ is the most affordable and longest-range model in the EQS family. The “+” indicates that it has the best range in the lineup, in this case, 350 miles on a full charge. Its single-motor electric powertrain produces 329 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque. The EQS 450+ is the only rear-wheel-drive model in the EQS lineup.

Standard safety features on the EQS include Distronic adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, automatic emergency braking, attention assist, blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, active speed limit assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, the Pre-Safe Plus system, and much more.
The standard infotainment system is the MBUX system, with a 12.8-inch OLED screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. It comes standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. You also get a navigation system with augmented reality, SiriusXM radio, and a Burmester 3D Surround Sound 15-speaker audio system.
All of the above comes standard at the Premium trim level. Upgrading to the Exclusive trim adds 4-zone automatic climate control, Multicontour front seats with massage, and the Air Balance system. Air Balance is an air purification system for the cabin that can add multiple fragrances.
With the upscale Pinnacle trim, the rear seats are power-adjustable with memory, plus they’re heated and ventilated. It also has luxury rear head restraints, a wireless charging pad in the back, and rear side-impact airbags. The EQS 450 4Matic is a new addition to the EQS model range for 2023. It’s the new entry-level all-wheel-drive (AWD) model at a much more affordable price than the EQS 580.
In addition to the AWD system, the EQS 4Matic has a performance upgrade over the EQS 450+. It has a dual-motor electric powertrain making 355 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It’s also the most efficient model in the EQS lineup, with an EPA combined fuel economy rating of 103 MPGe. That means it can travel 103 miles on the energy generated from one gallon of gas.
As for the options, the EQS 450 4Matic is essentially the same as the EQS 450+. It has the same trim structure with the Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle levels available.

An AMG Line appearance package is standard on the EQS 580, hinting at its performance. This sporty appearance package is optional on the EQS 450+ and EQS 450 4Matic. It includes unique bumpers and side skirts, black and chrome accents, a rear diffuser insert, and sporty wheels.
The EQS 580 also comes standard with the MBUX Hyperscreen. The Hyperscreen is one massive screen that spans the whole dash. In addition to a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver, it incorporates a 12.3-inch passenger screen and a 17.7-inch central display under one pane of glass.

2023 Mercedes-EQ AMG EQS 4Matic+: $147,550
The AMG EQS 4Matic+ is for drivers looking for peak performance in an electric Mercedes. It uses dual AMG-specific electric motors producing 649 hp and 704 lb-ft of torque. With the Race Start boost function, those numbers shoot up to 751 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque.
In addition to the upgraded motors, the AMG EQS gets AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive. This AWD system has infinite front/rear axle variability, meaning all torque can go to the rear wheels. How this system distributes torque depends on the drive mode. For example, the Comfort mode emphasizes efficiency and range, while the Sport and Sport+ modes have rear-biased AWD for sportier dynamics.
The AMG model uses AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, which improves comfort and performance. It responds to the road surface in milliseconds for the perfect level of stiffness, and it can lower the car for enhanced stability. Like the AWD system, the suspension behaves differently based on the selected drive mode.
Also upgraded are the brakes. The Mercedes-EQ AMG EQS 4Matic+ has massive 16.3-inch front brake rotors with 6-piston calipers for ultimate stopping power.
