As a 5-passenger crossover brimming with luxury and performance features, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne adds a dash of spice to the luxury SUV recipe. Never bland, the Cayenne offers several configurations, including a turbocharged hybrid variant capable of sprinting to 60 mph in less than four seconds.

On paper, the Cayenne plays in a competitive field, rubbing elbows with stalwart names like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi RS Q8, and newcomer Genesis GV80.

Yet none of these models can match the Cayenne for performance. Nor can they duplicate its miles-long optional equipment list, although, to be fair, none cost as much as a comparably-equipped Cayenne.

Out the door, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The trim determines engine choices, ranging from 335 horsepower in the base Cayenne to a tire-melting 670 in the Turbo S E-Hybrid.

The entry-level Cayenne has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 developing 335 hp. It’s paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and standard AWD. Porsche’s 4D Chassis Control helps keep the ride smooth and the wheels planted.

On the safety front, one might think the Cayenne should come with every conceivable driver-assist technology standard, but the opposite is true. The only standard system is automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist protection. All the other systems, which come standard on most competitors, are optional on the Cayenne.
