The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross returns substantially unchanged. But Toyota has added wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. It has also bumped the safety technologies from Safety Sense 2.0 to Safety Sense 3.0. Also notable: Using the fifth generation of its hybrid powertrain, Toyota is bringing a Corolla Cross Hybrid to market this year. We detail it separately.
Slapping the Corolla nameplate on this rather tame crossover is marketing genius. In doing so, Toyota has left no doubt in the public consciousness that the Corolla Cross is a great value. Small, easy on fuel, reliable, and technologically advanced, the Corolla Cross plants the Corolla flag in the hotly contested small-SUV arena.
Aligned against the Corolla Cross are rivals like the Kia Seltos, Chevy Trailblazer, Subaru Crosstrek, and Volkswagen Taos. The Corolla Cross falls in the middle of these specific competitors for resale value, but it’s better than average within the segment.
We’ve come to grips with the somewhat laid-back performance of the Corolla Cross. A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine delivers its only output. It sends 169 horsepower to the front wheels via an automatic transmission engineered for fuel economy and not snappy performance. Hill-start assist is standard. Front-wheel drive is also standard; for a $1,300 upcharge, you may add all-wheel drive (AWD) to any trim level.
Aimed at an efficient life on urban streets, the Corolla Cross slots between the C-HR and the RAV4. Although you may not be dazzled by its performance, you will enjoy its nimble maneuvering through crowded city streets, ease of parking, and 32 mpg in combined driving.
We like the Corolla Cross for its value, wealth of safety technologies, available AWD, and Toyota reliability.

2923 Toyota Corolla Cross L includes:
Adaptive cruise control – Once you have engaged the system and set the speed, it will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, braking and accelerating as needed.
Heated outboard mirrors – Electrically heated, these mirrors automatically clear away ice, snow, and fog.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – These apps allow your smartphone to interface with your vehicle. Not only can you access the music on your phone, but you can also send messages, receive messages, make calls, and so forth through your vehicle’s media system.
2023 Toyota Corolla Cross LE: $25,390
The LE is the best-selling Corolla Cross model, but only by a little. It barely edges out the XLE. Nevertheless, the LE is the best value among the Corolla Cross models.

Also included are proximity keyless entry, push-button start, rear privacy glass, single-zone automatic climate control, and wireless smartphone charging.

If you want more than the LE offers, the XLE adds LED taillights and fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Also included are dynamic guidelines for the backup camera, faux-leather seating, heated front seats, and a leather shift knob.
A 7-inch driver-information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and braking assist are standard, too.

Rented one in Sonoma for a few days. Up and down hills, curves and coast driving, got 38 mpg. Great handling and very comfortable
