2024 Chevrolet Camaro: Choosing the Right Trim

The year 2024 marks the end of an era as the final year for the Camaro, at least in its gas-powered form. It joins the Dodge Challenger and Charger on the exit ramp for internal-combustion-engine (ICE) muscle cars, leaving only the Ford Mustang to carry on the roaring tradition.

The 2024 Chevy Camaro still has much to offer for the gas-fueled faithful, with a wide range of models and engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and chiseled good looks that can still turn heads.

Buyers can choose from seven trims: 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1. Chevrolet will offer a special Collector’s Edition model on the SS and RS Package models. All models provide a choice of coupe or convertible.

With the base 1LS removed from the lineup, the standard engine for the LT becomes the 335 horsepower 3.6-liter V6, which can be hooked to a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic.

Moving to the LT1 and SS models brings a 455-hp 6.2-liter V8, while the ZL1 gets a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 good for 650 hp. The same transmission choices found on the LT trims apply here as well.

Prices provided are current at the time of publishing.

What’s New:

For the Camaro’s final run, Chevrolet offers a Collector’s Edition Package exclusively for the SS and ZL1 trims and LT trims with the RS Package. The 1LS is dropped, as is the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

Our Recommendation:

Unless you want a V8 engine (which we fully understand), the best value of the bunch is the Camaro 3LT. It brings plenty of performance plus valuable driver aids and upscale features. If, however, a V8 is a must, get the 2SS.

Performance enhancements include a limited-slip rear differential, a sport suspension, and Driver Mode Selections with settings for Snow/Ice, Sport, and Tour.

The 1LT rides on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season tires.

Standard equipment includes proximity key entry with push-button start, power mirrors, LED daytime running lights, and a rear spoiler.

Amenities include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, single-zone automatic air conditioning, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 6-way power passenger seat, and analog gauges separated by a digital driver information screen.

The infotainment system has a 7-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability.

Chevrolet offers numerous appearance packages and upgrades, as well as some desirable options such as Recaro sport seats, 20-inch wheel upgrades, and the Technology Package, which adds an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and a 9-speaker Bose audio system (seven speakers in the convertible).

The Camaro ZL1, powered by a supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, bolts to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

  • Which 2023 Chevrolet Camaro trim level gets the best mpg?

The Camaro 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT with the V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission deliver 18 mpg city/29 mpg highway/22 mpg combined.

A 6.2-liter V8 powers the LT1 and SS models. It delivers 20 mpg combined with the automatic and 19 mpg combined with the manual.

The worst mileage, naturally, is the ZL1 with the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 and manual transmission. It gets 14 mpg city/20 mpg highway/16 mpg combined. With the automatic transmission, you get the exact same 16 mpg combined.

  • Which Chevrolet Camaro trim level is the safest?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed five of its six safety tests on the Camaro. It earned the top score of Good in four of them. It scored Acceptable in the Roof Strength test.

Every Camaro has government-mandated safety systems like stability control and anti-lock brakes. But you must go up the grade ladder to the 3LT to get advanced driver aids like forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear-park assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
