In a sea of compact crossovers, the 2024 Mazda CX-30 stands apart. It offers expressive styling, sports car-like performance, and an interior fit for a premium luxury model.
In a nod to freedom of choice, Mazda offers eight unique trims, five of which feature a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, and the remaining three a potent 250-hp turbocharged version of the same engine. All-wheel drive (AWD) and a responsive 6-speed automatic transmission are standard across the range.
A potential CX-30 buyer has several choices outside the Mazda family, each with their strengths and weaknesses. The Honda HR-V offers more interior room, while the Kia Seltos has a better warranty. There’s also the Volkswagen Taos and Hyundai Kona, the latter offering a pure EV option.

What’s New:
Two new Mazda CX-30 trims arrive for 2024: the S Select Sport and Carbon Turbo. Heated side mirrors are added to S Select Sport and higher trims, while the base 2.5 S loses its rain-sensing wipers. Turbo trims get a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, while Carbon Edition and higher trims have wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a wireless charging pad.
Blind-spot monitoring and a rear seat reminder become standard. The CX-30 Premium Plus gains adaptive cruise control with lane-centering.
Our Recommendation:
If you can afford the turbocharged trims, we think they deliver the kind of driving experience Mazda buyers have come to expect. However, regarding sheer value, we’d go with the CX-30 2.5 S Preferred or, if you need more flash, the Carbon Edition.

2024 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S: $24,995
The Mazda CX-30 2.5 S packs quite a punch for an entry-level trim. Along with its standard AWD and peppy 4-cylinder engine, the S includes a robust roster of standard safety systems.
S buyers get forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection (Smart Brake Support), a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assists, and automatic high-beam headlight.
There’s also a driver attention monitor and a system that reminds the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle.
Mazda’s radar adaptive cruise control is standard and includes a stop/go function that can bring the CX-30 to a complete stop and then resume speed once the coast is clear.
Other notable safety systems include a rearview monitor, a tire pressure monitor, rear seat side-impact airbags, and seatbelt pre-tensioners. They join the front, front-side impact, front knee, and full-length side-curtain airbags.
You’ll also find an auto brake hold, off-road traction assist, and G-Vectoring Control Plus that helps keep the CX-30 planted during aggressive cornering.
A quick walk around the 2024 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S reveals auto on/off LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, body-colored power side mirrors, a rear wiper/washer, and a black rear roof spoiler.
More surprises await inside the CX-30 cabin, where it’s clear the creative teams at Mazda put some effort into the design. Manually adjustable front seats provide reasonable support, and the rear seat features a 60/40-split folding feature.
Cloth upholstery comes standard, as does a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, one-touch up/down power windows, a push-button starter, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, and cruise control.
Single-zone manual air conditioning is included in the price, along with power door locks, overhead map lights, and a rear window defroster. A 7-inch digital speedometer complements an analog tachometer, fuel, and temperature gauges.
An 8.8-inch display screen serves as the infotainment command center, although, unlike most displays, this one is not a touchscreen. Instead, Mazda provides a rotary controller and buttons on the center console. The controller resides below where the driver’s hand rests when perched on the center armrest. Voice commands are also available for some functions.
The system includes a 6-speaker AM/FM stereo, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Mazda Connect services. With Mazda Connect, owners can opt for a Wi-Fi hot spot, remote start, vehicle status and service information, navigation, and emergency services.
The base CX-30 has two USB-C ports.
Factory options are nonexistent, but dealer-installed accessories are abundant. One of our favorites is adding navigation through a simple SD card. The upgrade requires no additional labor or parts. Just plug in the card, and you’re good to go.
