While Mercedes-Benz is typically associated with prestigious luxury cars, the German brand also manufactures some of the most competitive commercial work vans on the market. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a full-size van available as a cargo van, crew van, passenger van, or cab chassis. The Sprinter is highly customizable, available with all-wheel drive, and has the distinction of a standard diesel engine. You can even get one as an EV. Whatever your small business (or big family) requires, there’s likely a Sprinter configuration that’s perfect for you.
The closest rivals to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are the Ford Transit (also available with AWD and an electric motor) and the Ram ProMaster. Although a slightly different animal, the old-school, truck-like Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana technically compete in the same class.
What’s New:
As of 2024, you can no longer get the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a regular gas engine. You can get a turbodiesel 4-cylinder in standard- or high-output configurations, and the new, all-electric eSprinter joins the lineup this year. For now, you can only get the eSprinter as a Cargo Van.
The Sprinter also picks up a few new standard features this year, including a heated driver’s seat and a color display in the gauge cluster.
Our Recommendation:
The right van depends on your needs. If budget allows, get the Premium Package for its extra safety and infotainment features.

2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van: $49,900
The Cargo Van variant of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a no-nonsense work van, but it comes with some pleasantly surprising standard features.
The standard powertrain is a turbodiesel 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with a standard output of 170 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The optional high-output, twin-turbo diesel boosts those numbers to 211 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 7-speed transmission with standard rear-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.
With the standard-output diesel, you can get the Sprinter Cargo Van in 2500 or 3500 classes (the higher the number, the greater the payload capacity). The high-output diesel adds the option of a 4500 variant, but not if you add AWD.
The electric eSprinter ($71,886), exclusively a Cargo Van, is available with a 134-hp standard-output motor and a 201-hp high-output motor. Its rear-wheel drive, limited to 75 mph, and does not yet have an official EPA range estimate as of this writing. We expect it to go around 200 miles on a full charge.
Two roof heights and three lengths are available for the Sprinter Cargo Van. There are two wheelbase options and the longer 170-inch wheelbase is available with an extended body for greater cargo volume. Every 170-inch-wheelbase Sprinter Cargo Van has a high roof; you can only get the standard roof with the 144-inch wheelbase. The eSprinter comes exclusively with the 170-inch wheelbase and high roof.
Prices add up quickly. The high roof is $3,500 with the standard wheelbase. The long-wheelbase high-roof setup adds $6,600 to the starting price. The extended body costs $9,000. The high-output engine costs an extra $2,800. The high-output AWD setup costs $9,500.
Standard features in the Sprinter Cargo Van include active brake assist, hill start assist, heated, power-adjustable mirrors, a passenger-side sliding door, fabric seats, a heated driver’s seat, air conditioning, a color display in the instrument cluster, a USB-C port, Bluetooth, and a backup camera.
Being a commercial vehicle, the Sprinter has many customization options. Premium paint options range from $755 to $1,198, and you can add upgraded cloth or leatherette seats for just $67. Swivel seats are available for $595. A Comfort Package ($307) upgrades the seats with lumbar support, comfort head restraints, and an overhead control panel. The Comfort Plus Package ($1,898) further adds power-adjustable front seats and a heated front passenger seat. The Driver Convenience Package ($449) adds a 12V power outlet, storage compartments with hinged lids, two additional master keys, Attention Assist, and power-folding mirrors.
The Premium Package ($805) primarily upgrades the infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen and the MBUX multimedia system, but it also adds lane-keeping assist and a wet wiper system. The Premium Plus Package ($2,008) goes even further with a 10.25-inch screen with navigation, a wireless charging pad, traffic sign assist, and the Acoustic Package.
As for the exterior, a Chrome Grille Package ($325) and an Exterior Lighting Package ($1,801) are available. The Exterior Lighting Package adds fog lamps with cornering light function, partial LED taillights, high beam assist, and LED high-performance headlights.
A few individual options you can add piecemeal include power-folding mirrors ($55), blind-spot monitoring ($504), a trailer hitch ($164), alloy wheels ($1,015), an electronic closing sliding door ($376), and cargo doors that swing out all the way to the side wall ($403). You can also get a cargo partition ($322), navigation ($815), lane-keeping assist ($322), and a reinforced front axle ($387).
With the steep $2,295 destination fee, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van costs $52,195. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $985. See the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Springer Cargo Van for sale near you
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van includes:
Diesel engines — The Sprinter is the only van in its class with a diesel engine. The standard engine makes 295 lb-ft of torque, and the high-output version makes 332 lb-ft. Plus it’s available with all-wheel drive.
eSprinter — The all-electric eSprinter is a cargo van that doesn’t burn a drop of gas. We estimate its range will be around 200 miles on a full charge.
Available MBUX infotainment system — The optional “Hey, Mercedes” MBUX infotainment system borrowed from Mercedes-Benz luxury cars adds a premium and high-tech feel to the Sprinter.
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van: $52,120
The Cargo Van variant of the Sprinter has a second row of three seats, corresponding windows, and windows in the cargo doors. It also adds rear air ducts for the passengers, a 13-speaker audio system, and a wood cargo floor with six D-rings.
Powertrain options in the Crew Van are the same as those of the Cargo Van.
The Crew Van is still available with the high roof and extended wheelbase, but you can’t get the Crew Van with the extended body. Every Crew Van is in the 2500 class, so its maximum payload rating is lower than that of the best Cargo Vans.
Since there are more seats, the upgraded seating material costs $229. A Crew Van Comfort Package ($246) adds convenience head restraints for the rear seats and upgraded comfort seats.
Other than those details, the standard and optional features of the Crew Van are very similar to the Cargo Van.
With the $2,295 destination fee, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van costs $54,415. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,027. See the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Springer Crew Van for sale near you
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van includes:
2-row seating — Extra seats in the Crew Van add to the versatility of this full-size van.
More windows — Windows in the second row and the cargo doors help keep people riding in back from getting sick.
Wood cargo floor — A wood cargo floor with D-rings comes standard in the Sprinter Crew Van.
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van: $55,800
The Sprinter Passenger Van has standard 12-passenger seating, but it’s available with up to 15 seats. It has the same wheelbase, roof height, and powertrain options as the Crew Van. Naturally, the 170-inch wheelbase variant is the one with 15 seats, plus it has pretty generous cargo room to boot. Being a passenger van, the windows on the van’s sides extend all the way to the back.
The seating material upgrade in the Passenger Van costs $481. Many of the packages and options are the same as the Crew Van and Cargo Van. The Rear Comfort Package ($1,703) upgrades all seats to add more comfort. The Passenger Accessibility Package ($1,684) adds an electric sliding door and an electric sliding step. There’s also a High-Performance Rear Air Conditioning Package ($1,258) upgrading the a/c for the rear passengers, plus Thermotronic automatic climate control.
With the $2,295 destination fee, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van costs $58,095. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,096. See 2024 Mercedes-Benz Springer Passenger Van for sale near you
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van includes:
12 or 15 seats — The Sprinter Passenger Van comes standard with 12 seats and is available with 15 seats, so there’s room for the whole crew.
Additional windows — The full window coverage on this passenger van gives the Sprinter an excellent outward view.
Unique options — These include the Passenger Accessibility Package with an electric sliding step and a High-Performance Rear Air Conditioning Package.
2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cab Chassis: $53,000
The Cab Chassis variant of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is simply a cab with a ladder frame. It’s still available in two wheelbase lengths, and it comes exclusively with the high-output diesel engine. It’s available in 3500 and 4500 classes.
You can order the Sprinter Cab Chassis with several Knapeheide body upfits straight from the factory. A few include service bodies (open or enclosed), a platform body, a box truck, a dump truck, and more.
With the $2,295 destination fee, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cab Chassis costs $55,295. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,044. See 2024 Mercedes-Benz Springer Cab Chassis for sale near you
