Having struck gold with its 3-row CX-90 SUV, Mazda applies the same stylish formula to the 2025 CX-70, a 2-row, 5-passenger SUV with more interior room than the compact CX-50. This model makes the perfect rival to the Chevrolet Blazer, Kia Sportage, and Honda Passport. The CX-70 is almost identical to the CX-90, save for the third-row seat. The two even share the same engine and feature set.
The standard engine is a turbocharged 3.3-liter with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system good for 280 horsepower. The Turbo S trims get a more powerful version of the same engine, producing 340 hp.
The CX-70 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 68-kilowatt electric motor for a combined output of 323 hp. The CX-70 PHEV can travel 26 miles solely on electric power and has an overall range of 490 miles using electric motors and gas engines.
All-wheel drive with a rear bias is standard across the model range.

We’d go with the CX-70 Premium. It has just about everything you’d expect at this price point and a few things you might not. If you’re going for a Turbo S model, we’d go big and pick the Premium Plus. The same goes for the PHEV.

2025 Mazda CX-70 Preferred: $41,900
The Preferred trim may be the most aptly named CX-70, as it comes with almost all the basics plus a few extra goodies, making it quite an appealing package. However, if towing is a requirement, it’s worth noting that the Preferred, along with the PHEV models, the max capacity is limited to 3,500 pounds. All other CX-70 trims can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Additional hardware worth noting include an auto brake hold function, hill launch assist, hill descent control, off-road traction assist, and Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) with modes for Sport and Off-Road.
The Preferred exterior touts 19-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing front wipers, rear privacy glass, auto-leveling LED headlights, automatic high beams, heated side mirrors, piano black roof rails, a power sunroof, and a power liftgate. Mazda’s Advanced Keyless Entry & Start lets you unlock the doors and start the engine without removing the key fob from your purse or pocket.
Moving to the cabin, we find leather upholstery covering both rows. Heated front seats are standard, as is an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, a 4-way power passenger seat, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat with cargo area remote release.
Additional interior amenities include a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, manual rear door sunshades, a wireless phone charger, 3-zone automatic climate control, one-touch up/down power front windows, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
The Preferred’s infotainment setup starts with a 12.3-inch color center display. As is the Mazda way, the screen functions are controlled via a rotary knob on the console. However, some touchscreen functionality is available when using the wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto app. Also included in the setup are Bluetooth, an 8-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio audio system, Alexa, and Mazda Connect, which consists of a Wi-Fi hot spot, remote services, and more. There are four USB-C charge ports, two in front and two in the second row.
The CX-70 Preferred pulls out all the stops on the safety and driver-assist front. It comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
You’ll also find a vehicle exit warning, a driver attention monitor, a rear backup camera, a rear seat reminder, and full-speed adaptive cruise control.
