2017 saw the arrival of Genesis as a stand-alone luxury car brand and the G80 was the 2nd model released under the nameplate. Previously known as the Hyundai Genesis, the G80 excels as a luxury car without the luxury pricing with features such as supple leather seats, blind-spot monitoring, modern heads-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment, wood trim, an extra large sunroof, heated and cooled seats, backup camera, rear-window curtains all-around, and the same stereo system (Lexicon) that Rolls Royce uses. Offered with either a V6 and V8 engine, the G80 might not have the performance power and quickness of a BMW or Audi, but it makes an excellent luxury "value pick" if you're considering a Cadillac or Lexus. The base model is respectable on fuel economy earning an average of 18 - 26 mpg, earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Institute for Highway Safety, and has a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. Buyers shouldn't forget that Genesis offers one of the best warranties among all automotive manufacturers. Our editors liked the G80 so much, we named the 2017-2020 model years as one of the 15 best cars of the decade. In 2022, the model lineup was expanded to include a Sport level trim. Other popular trims include the 2.5T, 2.5T Advanced, 2.5T Prestige, 3.3T Sport, 3.5T, 3.5T Prestige, 3.5T Sport, 3.8, 5.0, and 5.0 Ultimate.
