What would summer blockbuster movies be without major product endorsements? Though some sightings are subtle, the products of the Sex and the City franchise have never been hidden in the background. Manolo Blahnik, Apple, Tiffany and any number of New York clubs and restaurants have promoted their wares in a fun, but also blatant display of commercialism over the years. And it's no different with Mercedes-Benz' presence in this years' "Sex and the City 2."
With cameos from the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, G-Class SUV, Maybach and the eco-friendly S400 Hybrid, the ladies of Sex and the City 2 would have us believe that that Benz's are like shoes; You can never have too many.
After returning from a 2-year big screen hiatus, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda take another fabulous adventure into the hills of Abu Dhabi in four lavish Maybachs and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV. A pre-vacay Samantha is seen sporting her new GLK while shopping on Rodeo Drive and the four sleek, all white Maybachs -one for each fashionista - compliment the ladies' boisterous and vibrant attire when they set sail on their desert adventure.
Meanwhile, back in New York, the low-key Mr. Big continues to be driven around in an S-class – but this time with a green upgrade – in the new S400 Hybrid Sedan. Mercedes eco-friendly sedan is equipped with a built-in system called COMAND- an 8" color-LCD widescreen that offers the driver total control of vehicle functions including navigation, audio, climate, and telephone and seat adjustments.
And if you still can't get enough Mercedes in the City, the brand new 2011 E-Class Cabriolet, makes its first on-screen debut when Mr. Big and Carrie take a summer weekend drive to Connecticut. Even though the the top is down, Carries hair doesn't budge because the new silver soft-top convertible features a system called AIRCAP that significantly reduces wind noise. And a technology called AIRSCARF generates warm gusts of air on the necks of front passengers. Both innovative technologies from Mercedes allow passengers like Carrie and Mr. Big to enjoy the luxury of a top-down summer drive without having to sacrifice the style and comfort they are both so accustomed to having.
And the commercial doesn't stop there. The vehicles featured in the film are provided in a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Sex and the City that includes a microsite that gives fans a chance to take a virtual tour of New York in the E-Class Cabriolet featured in the film.
"Based on the success of the first movie and its ability to attract trendsetters and style-makers, "Sex and the City 2" is a natural fit for Mercedes-Benz," says Steve Cannon, Vice President of Marketing, Mercedes-Benz USA. Canon also noted the ideal positioning of the new E-Class Convertible in the film – conveniently concurrent with its recent arrival in showrooms.
The E-Class Cabriolet will be available at dealerships for fans everywhere this June.
