- City Pack includes proximity key, parking sensors and alarm
- Premium package adds panoramic roof and climate control
- Both packages are available across MINI model lineup
Pricing and equipment changes have been announced for 2014 MINI Cooper models. For the latest model year, a new option package, City Pack, is available across the lineup. It bundles city-friendly features such as parking sensors and a security alarm to make driving easier for urbanites.
City Pack essentially replaces the Premium 1 package. In addition to rear parking sensors and a security alarm, it includes power folding side mirrors, heated mirrors and wash jets, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors and a proximity key with push-button start. The package costs $1,250; that's $500 less than the old Premium 1 package, which included a few more features.
Some of those features -- automatic climate control, auto headlights and wipers -- are available with the new premium package, which includes a panoramic sunroof. The premium package is priced at $1,250.
Both City Pack and the premium package are available on all 2014 MINI Cooper models.
Pricing for most 2014 MINI models remains unchanged from the 2013 model year. The exceptions are the Countryman and Paceman, which each get a $100 price bump in exchange for a minor equipment upgrade: heated mirrors and washer jets.
The Countryman and Paceman also get a few small revisions, such as cup holders for the rear seats in place of the center rail. The Countryman also gets a standard rear bench seat and padded rear armrests on the doors. The 2014 Paceman gets MINI's Comfort suspension as standard, while the Sport suspension can be specified as a no-cost option. Finally, MINI will offer interior and exterior John Cooper Works packages that provide the look of the performance model on the Cooper and Cooper S versions of the Countryman and Paceman.
MINI's revised option packages will be good for customers. City Pack and the premium package are more straightforward than the old Premium 1 and Premium 2 packages. Plus, City Pack may be a few features shy of the old Premium 1 package, but it's also less expensive while still including the most useful equipment.
Production of 2014 MINI models begins July 1. Look for 2014 models in dealers' showrooms later this summer.
What it means to you: MINI's City Pack is ideal for urban drivers, bundling city-friendly features such as a proximity key with push-button start, power folding side mirrors and rear parking sensors. Look for it on all 2014 MINI models.
