• 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S revealed
  • New models offer 520 hp and 560 hp respectively, but PDK only transmission
  • Sales to start later this year or early in 2014

The most powerful versions of Porsche's iconic 911 have officially been unveiled. Porsche recently pulled the covers off its all-new 911 Turbo and even faster 911 Turbo S at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show after showing images online earlier this year.

On the outside, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S look largely similar to the standard, naturally aspirated 911 Carrera. That means they boast the iconic Porsche shape, with a wide track, circular headlights and a teardrop-style sloping roof. But there are a few big updates, such as a fixed rear spoiler and dual air intakes on either of the car's widened rear fenders.

Of course, the biggest upgrades to the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S are under the hood. While the standard 911 offers 350 horsepower and the Carrera S boosts that figure to 400 horses, the Turbo and Turbo S take things even further still. The Turbo offers a whopping 520 hp, which reaches 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, while the Turbo S boasts an amazing 560 hp and a jaw-dropping 2.9-second 0-to-60 mph time.

The power comes from a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine that's no larger than the V6 powerplant in many midsize cars and SUVs. But the 911 Turbo and Turbo S make so much power due to their turbochargers, which force air into the engine to give it extra muscle. The result is far more speed than even the regular -- and very quick -- standard 911.

Unfortunately for drivers who prefer stick shifts, Porsche doesn't plan to offer three pedals on the 911 Turbo and Turbo S. Both cars will use Porsche's lightning-quick PDK dual-clutch automatic, which sends power to all four wheels. Compared to the standard rear-wheel-drive 911, that's an upgrade, since all-wheel drive means improved grip for better acceleration and handling.

While Porsche has not yet announced pricing for the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S, current models start at $138,500 and $161,700, respectively. We expect a healthy bump over that figure when the models reach dealerships later this year or early in 2014.

What it means to you: The new 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S are incredibly fast -- and very pricey.
