Even premium rides like the Porsche Cayman have to work hard to keep up.

Lots of cars have high-performance pretensions, but few are actually built with the track in mind. The FR-S is an exception. The engineers purposely left extra headroom for helmets, so even taller track jockeys should fit easily in full racing attire. The FR-S is still best for folks who really like to push their cars hard, but you could easily get away with commuting to work in this thing, and that's a testament to the all-around engineering effort behind it.

4. Style to Spare
With curves in all the right places, the FR-S scores serious style points. The best part is, Scion managed to make the styling eye-catching without going over the top. No silly wings or hood scoops here-just clean, crisp lines conveying that the FR-S means business. One concern some people have about sport coupes is that they're not "mature" enough, but we think the FR-S is sufficiently restrained to appeal to a wide age range.

5. Reasonably Priced
As a true purpose-built sport coupe, the FR-S doesn't have many peers at its entry price of about $25,000. If you want this kind of athleticism from another automaker, prepare to pay up. The no-nonsense FR-S isn't the fastest or loudest car in this segment, but it gives you all the handling you need at a price you can afford.
