2011 Jaguar XJ - Video Transcript

April: Hi I'm April Soderstrom.

Darin: And I'm Darin Contini.

April: You're watching AutoTrader's New Car Review of the all-new 2011 Jaguar XJ.

Darin: One look at the 2011 Jaguar XJ's sculpted bodywork and it's obvious this is a full-size ultra luxury sedan that breaks with traditional Jags of the past.

Darin: It also has a very stylish, high-tech interior.

April: It really is a terrific looking car and should compete nicely against cars like the BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Darin: Absolutely… While the XJ's new styling is terrific, to really appreciate the new level of quality, you've got to check out the cabin.

April: Wow, this is Elegant! And plenty of room… I love the wood trim… These leather seats are incredibly soft and comfortable!

Darin: Heated and cooled, of course. And check this out: Start it up… At first glance, the gauges look like traditional analog gauges. But they're actually virtual instruments that, when the needle reaches each number, it illuminates brightly, drawing your eyes right to it.

Since it's actually a 12.3-inch HD video screen you can also get messages and maps in addition to the tachometer, speedometer and gear selection indicators.

April: OK, gorgeous cabin… But to keep up with the German sport sedans, the new XJ will need some serious power.

Darin: Thankfully, this Jag delivers with a 5-liter V8 that makes 385 horsepower. It moves the car from 0-to-60 in 5.4 seconds - three tenths of second quicker than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Darin: If that's not enough power for you, you can also opt for a supercharged model with 470 horsepower or the limited-edition Supersport with a 510-horsepower version of the supercharged V8.

A 6-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels.

April: What does that mean in real world terms?

Darin: It means it's much quicker than the old XJ and right up there with the competition. You can even use paddle shifters to change gears for a little more control.

April: Ah, a little taste of Formula One!

Darin: Right. But unlike Formula One, the air suspension automatically adapts firmness and comfort according to road conditions.

April: All this performance and luxury usually mean the price is over the top. Surprisingly, the XJ is somewhat of a bargain.

Darin: Well, relative to other luxury sedans. At a base of $72,700, the 2011 XJ is nearly $10,000 less than the BMW 7-Series, and $20,000 cheaper than a Mercedes S-Class.

April: That's quite a gap.

Darin: A considerable gap when you consider what you get.

All models come standard with an HD touchscreen, a 30 gigabite hard drive, rear view camera, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and an amazing panoramic, retractable glass roof with automatic sun shades.

April: So, any concerns about Jaguar reliability?

Darin: Jaguar is offsetting any concerns with a 5-year, 50,000-mile new vehicle bumper to bumper warranty, as well as Jaguar Platinum Coverage, which covers wear and tear items like oil changes, wiper blades, brake pads and discs as well as roadside assistance.

April: So there you have it. Jaguar has reshaped its image with the new 2011 XJ: a flagship luxury sedan with a blend of modern style, serious performance and luxury all its own.
