Mid-April is tax time, and if you’re like most Americans that means a refund check may soon be headed your way. Last year’s average refund was around $3,000, and based on early returns it will be similar in 2011. That extra money would make a nice down payment on a new car, but a little added incentive wouldn’t hurt either. Here are some of the best new car deals currently available to help you stretch that tax refund into a brand new set of wheels.
Buick is offering $4,000 cash back on its 2011 Lucerne throughout April. Add your $3,000 refund and you’ve suddenly got $7,000 off – and Chevrolet is making the same deal on its 2011 Impala, too. See offers for the Buick Lucerne or Chevrolet Impala on the automakers’ websites.
$5,000 off 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche
You can save $5,000 off any remaining 2010 Chevrolet Avalanches, for a total of $8,000 off when paired with the typical refund. See offers for the Avalanche on the Chevrolet website.
Ford is offering $3,000 cash back on several of its SUVs and trucks including the 2010 Explorer, 2011 Lincoln MKT and Navigator, and 2011 F-150 and Expedition. See offers on the Ford or Lincoln websites.
Up to $4,500 off from Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi is offering $3,500 back on its 2011 Galant and $4,500 on the 2011 Endeavor. See offers on the Mitsubishi website.
$3,500 off on Nissan SUVs & Pickups
Nissan, too, is pushing cash-back incentives in time for tax season, offering $3,500 back on its Armada SUV and Titan pickup in April. See offers on the Nissan website.
2011 Honda Pilot for $289 per month
At Honda’s “Really Big Thing” sales event, lease payments can be lowered significantly with a down payment in the neighborhood of the typical refund. With $2,499 down, for example, the automaker is offering payments of just $289 per month on its 2011 Pilot. See offers for the Pilot on the Honda website.
If your heart is set on a German car, head to Volkswagen, where incentives are plentiful. The automaker is offering its brand-new 2011 Jetta at under $200 a month, provided you can pony up a $2,000 to $3,000 payment at signing – just the right amount for the average taxpayer. The deal is good throughout April, and also applies to the compact Golf hatchback. See offers for the Jetta and Golf on the VW website.
New Infinitis starting at $339 per month
If you’re looking for a little more luxury in your lease, take your tax refund to Infiniti. Nissan’s luxury brand is offering its new G25 sedan for $339 a month with just $1,999 down – and the brawnier G37 can be had for under $400 a month with just $2,499 up front. The automaker is even offering a tax refund-friendly lease deal on its recently-redesigned M37, advertising a down payment of just $2,999 – but taking advantage of that deal involves payments approaching $600 per month. See offers on the Infiniti website.
