  • Honda unveils the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe Concept at this year's 2012 Detroit Auto Show
  • Featuring three new drivetrain options, it stands to be the most fuel efficient in its class
  • Though only a concept, it includes many new features to be found in the production 2013 Accord

Honda released information on its 2013 Honda Accord Coupe Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. According to Honda, the concept has many of the newest features and technologies customers can expect to see in the 2013 Accord, which will go on sale in late 2012.

Powered by three all-new engine combos, the Accord will achieve class-leading fuel economy ratings. Options under the hood include a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine with direct injection (a significant move for Honda, who long avoided direct injection, favoring other engine technologies instead), a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 with an optional six-speed manual or automatic transmission (the six-speed auto is another first for a Honda sedan) and a two-motor plug-in hybrid system from Honda's suite of next-generation Earth Dreams powertrain technologies.

Even though the Accord is Honda's best-selling model, designers got daring with the Accord Concept body design. The Accord Concept looks very athletic and sporting with a touch of bling. Around the front bumper-integrated fog lights are crystallized chrome inlays. Though the Accord Concept remains comparable in size to the current Accord, the wheelbase has been shortened saving on vehicle weight and improving driving dynamics.

Additionally, the Accord will be equipped with several new technologies to help improve driver road visibility. The Accord will be the first model to receive the Honda-exclusive LaneWatch blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. Honda will also include, as standard, a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and an Expanded View Driver's Mirror.

What it means to you: Honda makes strides to modernize their engine designs and infuse a sportier soul into their best seller.
