2015 Kia Rio: Paris Auto Show

What Is It?

The Kia Rio is a subcompact car that stands at the entry level of Kia's lineup, below models such as the Forte and Optima. At this year's Paris Auto Show, the Kia Rio is facelifted, marking its first major update since going on sale for the 2012 model year.

On the outside, changes to the 2015 Kia Rio are minimal, but they'll be noticeable to shoppers familiar with the small car. Most obvious is a revised front end, which features a new grille and updated fog-light housings. The Rio also boasts a new rear bumper, new rear taillights and revised alloy wheel designs.

Changes are even more minimal inside the Rio; the car boasts an updated center stack with some new switchgear and a few new materials. The Rio also adds some small chrome trim pieces inside the cabin.

Under the hood, today's Rio offers just one powerplant: a 138-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. While Kia hasn't confirmed it, we expect that engine to carry over to the facelifted model.

How Much?

While Kia has not yet confirmed pricing for the latest Rio, we think that the car's base price will only be a little higher than today's $14,700 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The Kia Rio is already an excellent compact car, offering modern styling, two appealing body styles, and a surprisingly long list of standard and optional features. The 2015 Kia Rio brings all those positive traits to a body style that's a little more modernized, with a newer front and rear bumper and some other touches. No, it isn't a huge change, but it still keeps one of our favorite small cars competitive against increasingly modern and competitive rivals.

Other Cars to Consider

Ford Fiesta -- The Ford Fiesta is one of our favorite subcompact cars. Offering a modern interior, impressive powertrains and excellent gas mileage, it's a great competitor to virtually all small-car rivals.

Honda Fit -- Only offered as a 5-door hatchback, the newly redesigned Honda Fit is among our favorite compact cars. It's practical, fuel efficient and surprisingly roomy -- and it offers a reasonable base price of around $16,400, too.

Hyundai Accent -- The highly similar Hyundai Accent offers similar pricing to the Rio along with similar sizing and the same engines. Drivers who want the Rio should certainly consider the Accent, too.

Used Honda Civic -- If you need something a little bigger than the Rio, consider a used Honda Civic. While it won't quite be a new car, Civics have a strong reputation for long-term durability, and the Civic will offer better passenger and cargo room than the Rio does.
