What Is It?
The 2017 Bentley Continental Supersports is the fastest and most powerful car to ever wear a Bentley badge. It comes in coupe or 4-seater convertible form. Both cars weigh more than 5,000 pounds, but the mighty 709 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque from the twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine means sprinting from a standstill to 60 mph in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds in the tin-top or 3.7 seconds in the convertible. That really is super. Top speeds are 209 and 205 mph, respectively.
Bentley claims the Supersports is the fastest 4-seater in the world. Yet it isn’t just about straight-line speed. The all-wheel-drive and computerized-braking systems result in uncanny cornering abilities. And when it’s time to slow down, the world’s largest carbon-ceramic brake discs are installed behind 21-inch forged alloy wheels.
Although the styling has been tweaked from the regular Continental GT and the suspension similarly tightened and lowered, the Supersports is still a lavishly luxurious conveyance, with a hand-crafted cabin featuring the finest leather and plenty of bespoke options for personalization.
This is the third Supersports model from Bentley. The first came out in the 1920s, and then there was a long wait until 2009 for the second. And Bentley unveiled this car at a separate event the day before the Detroit show’s first press day.
The 2017 Bentley Continental Supersports starts at $293,300 for the coupe. The convertible version starts at $322,600.
