2017 RAM 1500 Rebel Black: Detroit Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2017 RAM 1500 Rebel Black is a new version of the off-road-oriented RAM 1500 Rebel, which was recently released to take on off-roader trucks like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Toyota’s line of TRD Pro models.

Despite its name, the RAM Rebel Black will be offered in several exterior colors. The pickup instead gets its name from the black trim RAM has added throughout the interior and exterior — trim that includes black wheels, a black brush guard, black rings around the gauge cluster and other black interior features. RAM says the Rebel Black will even offer black leather seats.

Aside from all the black touches, the Rebel Black is the same as the standard Rebel. That means 33-inch all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks, air suspension, tow hooks and skid plates, in addition to all the normal benefits of a traditional RAM 1500, like a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine or an optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8.

How Much?

The RAM 1500 Rebel Black starts at $46,900 with shipping.

If you simply can’t wait any longer for the Ford F-150 Raptor, or if you prefer the RAM’s appearance or capabilities, the RAM 1500 Rebel Black adds an appealing new model to the RAM lineup. Not only is the Rebel designed to traverse far more advanced trails than a standard RAM 1500, but the black accents give it a unique touch that most other RAM Rebel models won’t have.

Other Cars to Consider

Ford F-150 Raptor — The F-150 Raptor is probably more capable than the RAM Rebel — and it touts some serious updates over a standard F-150. But it’s more expensive than the RAM Rebel, and there are waiting lists for the new model.

Nissan Titan PRO-4X — The new Nissan Titan PRO-4X isn’t quite a dedicated off-roader on the same level as the RAM Rebel or F-150 Raptor, but it’s still an impressive truck — and its brand-new design means truck shoppers owe it a fresh look.

Toyota Tundra TRD Pro — Although the Tundra TRD Pro doesn’t quite have the Rebel’s level of off-road touches, it comes standard with V8 power — and it boasts notorious Toyota reliability.
