2017 RAM Power Wagon: Chicago Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2017 RAM Power Wagon is the latest version of the revived Power Wagon nameplate that initially came out in the 1940s. Although earlier Power Wagon models were certainly large and attention-grabbing, the newest version might just be the most eye-catching iteration yet.

There is, for example, a giant new grille inspired by the off-road-oriented RAM 1500 Rebel, which gives the truck an aggressive look from the front. There are new LED marker lights, which help the truck stand out. And there's a new vertical stripe behind the cab, available in black or bright silver depending on what color truck you get.

Still based on the heavy-duty RAM 2500, the latest Power Wagon boasts 17-inch wheels and 33-in off-road tires, along with a beefed-up suspension for improved off-roading capabilities. There's also a unique new wheel design. And then there's the badging: Giant RAM and POWER WAGON emblems now take up most of the tailgate and a surprisingly large amount of each front door. Interior design, however, is largely the same compared to last year's model.

Under the hood, the 2017 RAM Power Wagon boasts a 6.4-liter HEMI V8, which touts 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. While it's not a monstrous diesel, RAM says the Power Wagon can still tow an impressive 10,030 pounds. It also offers off-road-oriented features, such as a disconnecting sway bar, front and rear electronic locking differentials and a 12,000-lb winch.

How Much?

RAM hasn't announced pricing, but we expect a small step up from today's Power Wagon, which starts at $47,500 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

If you're interested in the RAM Power Wagon, you probably already know it. Not only is it a heavy-duty truck, but it offers serious engine power, off-road-ready brawn and styling cues designed to turn heads. This isn't a truck for the meek. It's a full-size off-roader aimed at shoppers who really want to stand out.

Other Cars to Consider

2016 Ford F-150 Raptor -- Although the Raptor is only a light-duty truck (compared to the Power Wagon, which is a 2500-level heavy-duty model), it still offers amazing off-road prowess. It also touts more of a unique look than the RAM.

2015 Nissan Titan PRO-4X -- The full-size Nissan Titan PRO-4X is a light-duty truck, but it offers impressive capabilities and some off-road prowess. It also touts a brand-new design.

2016 RAM 1500 Rebel -- If you like the Power Wagon's look but don't need its heavy-duty capabilities (or price), consider the off-road-ready RAM 1500 Rebel. It's smaller and more manageable than a heavy-duty truck, and it still offers eye-catching styling.
