2019 Ford Edge: Detroit Auto Show

What Is It?

Significant changes to the regular version of the 2019 Ford Edge are few and far between. It's a freshening. Mechanically, the current 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is mated to an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission that coaxes out an additional 5 horsepower, for a total of 250 hp.

Ford spruced up the front end, broadening the grille and offsetting the headlamps. A new look for the lift gate and LED tail lamps highlight enhancements to the rear. Inside a redesigned center console with a rotary gear selector are the primary cabin changes.

Among the available driver-assist and safety technologies on the 2019 Ford Edge are forward-collision warning, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, post-collision braking, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, evasive steering assist, lane centering and hill-start assist. Inside, the new FordPass Connect replaces the SYNC Connect, and the Edge will now also offer a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The big news for the 2019 Ford Edge is that it's the first SUV/Crossover to receive an ST version. Yes, it will use the same new 8-speed automatic transmission to switch the cogs, but in the Ford Edge ST it will be bolted to a 335-hp 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbo engine. Moreover, the Edge ST comes with standard AWD with selectable traction control, a beefed-up sport suspension and an available performance brake package. A few design tweaks, like a mesh grille, deep side skirts, dual exhaust outlets and 21-inch wheels, round out the Edge ST model.

How Much?

Ford hasn't announced pricing, but the base prices of the current Edge are between $30,215 and $41,670.
