What Is It?
A stylish, all-new, midsize sedan, the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon blends the wind-cheating look of a coupe with the convenience of a 4-door. Think of it as an updated, bigger, bolder, faster CC. It won’t be mistaken for anything but a VW; however, it offers a polished exterior and an aggressive stance.
Volkswagen will offer it in three grades: SE, SEL and SEL Premium. All three will generate power from the widely used 268-horsepower 2-liter turbo with automatic start/stop mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive will be available.
Exterior highlights include standard LED headlights/taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, DCC Active Damping, frameless side windows, dual exhaust tips and rear decklid spoiler. Among the standard interior features are rearview camera, heated front seats, keyless access, 3-zone automatic climate control and an infotainment system with an 8-in touchscreen, app-connect technology with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink.
In addition to standard driver-assist/safety technologies like forward-collision warning, forward emergency braking, blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, Volkswagen offers a wide range of available assist systems, including adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-departure warning, high-beam control, Parking Steering Assistant with Park Distance Control and a birds-eye camera.
Pricing to be announced, but probably in the mid-$30,000 range.
When Can I Get It?
Fall of 2018.
Add It to Your Shopping List Because …
If the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon lives up to its brand, it will handle like a slot car. VW is one of those carmakers that believes getting somewhere is most of the fun. Hopefully, they’ve built that idea into the Arteon. Furthermore, it looks terrific. An impressive list of standard gear is a plus, as well.
