2014 Porsche Macan Official Pricing Announced

  • 2014 Porsche Macan starts at $50,895 with shipping
  • High-performance Macan Turbo starts around $73,000
  • Both models priced below Cayenne trims with similar performance

Porsche has officially announced pricing for its upcoming Macan crossover. The brand recently revealed that the sporty Macan S will start at $50,895 including destination, while base pricing for the high-performance Macan Turbo will top $73,000 with shipping. Both models go on sale this spring.

At first glance, the Macan’s near-$51,000 entry price may seem steep. The reason is that the compact crossover starts $300 above the base price of Porsche’s larger Cayenne SUV — a move that may cause some shoppers to raise their eyebrows, considering the Macan’s size.

But the Macan’s pricing has more to do with performance than sizing. Entry-level Macan models boast the Macan S designation, meaning the SUV is a closer rival to the mid-level Cayenne S than to the base-level Cayenne. That’s proven with acceleration numbers: The 340-horsepower Macan S reaches 60 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds, beating out both the base-level Cayenne (300 hp; 0-to-60 mph in 7.1 seconds) and the Cayenne S (400 hp; 0-to-60 mph in 5.6 seconds). The Cayenne S starts around $67,800 with shipping.

As for the Macan Turbo, it packs a whopping 400 hp in its $73,000 base price. The result is a 0-to-60-mph time of just 4.4 seconds, which rivals the high-performance, 500-hp Cayenne Turbo — an SUV that starts above $111,000 with shipping.

In other words, the Macan S and Macan Turbo boast an excellent value in the world of Porsche SUVs. The only problem is that some drivers won’t find the new SUVs large enough for families and luggage. The Cayenne is around six inches longer than the Macan and roughly four inches taller, and neither SUV offers third-row seating.

Still, Porsche fans will appreciate the Macan for offering nearly everything the Cayenne does in a smaller, more affordable package. It still boasts standard all-wheel drive, traditional Porsche styling and — presumably — typical Porsche razor-sharp handling. According to the brand’s online configurator, the Macan also includes Porsche’s usual long list of optional extras.

What it means to you: The 2014 Porsche Macan offers a less expensive take on the Porsche SUV — and we wouldn’t be surprised to see an even more affordable base model reach dealers soon after the Macan S and Macan Turbo.
