- 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport offers lifestyle upgrades
- Changes include an innovative in-bed accessory system and splash guards
- Chevrolet will offer accessories through dealers when the Colorado goes on sale
Chevrolet is using this year’s State Fair of Texas as the launch pad for a new concept version of its all-new Colorado midsize pickup truck. Dubbed the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport concept, the truck is intended to show off the “lifestyle-oriented versatility” of the upcoming Colorado.
On the outside, the truck certainly succeeds in its purpose. Shown with a pair of bicycles in back, the Colorado Sport concept includes the innovative GearOn accessory system that lets drivers mount larger items — such as bikes or kayaks — above the bed of the truck, leaving room for smaller accessories underneath.
The Colorado Sport concept’s exterior also offers other upgrades from the standard model, including splash guards, assist steps for climbing inside and wheel lip moldings for a more muscular look. Finally, unique concept wheels are also included to enhance the truck’s eye-grabbing look.
Although the Colorado Sport concept doesn’t offer any major revisions inside, Chevrolet notes that the pickup’s cabin already includes a wide variety of features that those who are active might appreciate. Such items include the brand’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot and high-tech safety items including lane departure warning and forward-collision alert.
While Chevrolet has not announced whether the Colorado Sport will make production, the automaker does say that shoppers who are especially interested in the pickup can build their own. That’s because the truck’s GearOn accessories are designed and engineered by Chevrolet — and many of the add-ons can be ordered along with the vehicle and included in the selling price. That means the extras won’t void the truck’s warranty, and you can even roll them into your financing.
Officially on sale later this year, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado starts around $21,000 with shipping. Three engines will be available: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6 and, eventually, a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel.
What it means to you: The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport concept is an all-new lifestyle-oriented version of the midsize Colorado pickup. It proves that Chevrolet is targeting a young, active demographic.
