Autotrader Find: 1988 Jaguar XJS V12 With 6,600 Miles

Here’s a total shock: a 1988 Jaguar XJS V12 in absolutely pristine condition. This 1988 XJS V12 has traveled just 6,591 miles from new, which I assumed was an error until I checked the Carfax report — which, indeed, seems to confirm that it’s traveled just 6,591 miles from new. Most XJS models from this era are in rough shape after years of neglect — but not this one.

Also unusual about this particular version is that it’s an XJ-SC, which is the name Jaguar gave to its targa-topped XJS models in the 1980s. Reportedly fearing new regulations that might ban convertibles, Jaguar developed this instead — but such regulations never came, and a true convertible model debuted in 1989.

But back to the mileage. This car is one of the lowest-mileage XJS models on earth, and it clearly shows it; the interior appears absolutely immaculate, which is unusual on the XJS — since most XJS models fell into disrepair after finding second or third owners who couldn’t afford to maintain them properly.

The Carfax report tells an interesting story. It seems to show that this XJS was sold new in Orlando and had accumulated around 6,085 miles by 1999. Miles were added very sparingly after that, with the XJS not surpassing the 6,200-mile mark until 2006; 6,300 didn’t come until 2009. Interestingly, most of the odometer readings on the Carfax report came when the car went in for service, suggesting it’s been maintained reasonably well.

Indeed, this Jaguar is an anomaly, and so is its price; it’s offered by Crown Jaguar in St. Petersburg, Florida, near Tampa, for $24,750 — a big number for an XJS. But this might just be the nicest XJS left.
