JDM Mitsubishi SUVs have grown something of a cult following since more of them became legal to import to the U.S. They’re beloved for their sheer weirdness, low costs, and pretty rugged off-road chops. Today’s Autotrader Find is one such example that’s received some interesting modifications. It’s a 1995 Mitsubishi Pajero with skid plates, a roll cage, a weird rear cap, and much more.
Where to Begin?
There’s so much going on here it’s hard to know where to begin. Let’s start out back with that goofy rear cap. It’s a Shinsei cap, giving this SUV a bulbous roofline and a very unusual rear wing. It must have some sort of aerodynamic benefit and if it doesn’t, at least it makes this Mitsubishi Pajero look cool.
Among the many other modifications are the aforementioned skid plates and roll cage plus a front bull bar, Ohlins suspension, Mozzer wheels, racing seats, and a Kenwood stereo. Also, the rear seats have been removed, which seems to be a pretty common modification for these.
Powering this little 2-seater SUV is a mighty 3.5-liter “6G74” V6 engine that makes 230 horsepower. Usually, little off-roaders from this era have little engines that don’t make a whole lot of power. The brawny V6 in this Mitsubishi Pajero makes it stand out among the likes of the Suzuki Samurai and YJ Jeep Wrangler. It also has “Super Select 4WD” and a 5-speed manual transmission. There are a few luxuries that I’m surprised to see like air conditioning and power windows.
If you’ve been looking for an off-roader that’s also a reasonably good road car and also very weird, then this Mitsubishi Pajero is up your alley. It’s for sale in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, with an asking price of $13,999. You could get a Geo Tracker for less, but you won’t find anything else quite like this JDM SUV. Find a Mitsubishi SUV for sale
