This 1988 Ford Econoline is probably the nicest van left from this era. Finished in 2-tone red and silver, this ’88 Econoline has traveled just 38,000 miles since new — and it shows it, by being truly amazing condition that’s surely better than virtually all of its contemporaries.
I say that because these full-size vans were bought to be used, and used heavily — by families, by conversion van companies, by cargo haulers. Not this one. This particular 1988 E-150 van was purchased and used sparingly, accumulating just over 1,000 miles a year, on average, since it was first sold. It’s truly incredible to see an Econoline in this type of condition, and I don’t expect to see another one anytime soon — if ever.
On the outside, this van is finished in 2-tone dark red and silver, and it still wears the original factory wheels, which are uncommon. Inside, this Econoline has a red interior, with red cloth seats, red carpeting and a dark red dash — along with wood trim on the steering wheel and dashboard. This is precisely how the van would’ve been delivered 30 years ago, and it’s taken on very little wear since then.
According to the description, the van was purchased by the original owner to haul toy cars and other equipment to car shows. The description also says the 5-digit odometer has never turned over (to indicate, for instance, 138,000 miles instead of 38,000), and the Carfax seems to prove it, as it was sold new in March 1988 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, with 15 miles, and additional mileage updates have been consistent ever since.
The van is currently offered by Garren Auto Sales, described in the listing as a friend of the original owner, in Wellford, South Carolina, near Spartanburg, for $12,500 — big money for an old van, but reasonable for what might be the last one of these left in this condition.
