Electric Vehicles: Daimler Commits to Help Fund Charging Stations in Europe

ChargePoint, the North American leader in charging networks for electric vehicles (EVs), recently announced new backer Daimler as the lead in raising its initial $82 million in funds for establishing a new grid of charging stations in Europe.

With more than 32,000 charging stations across the United States and Canada, the Campbell, CA-based ChargePoint fulfills the EV charging needs of drivers at home, at work, around town and on the road. ChargePoint’s goal is to bring the same degree of charging availability to Europe. Fanning ChargePoint’s enthusiasm for a European expansion was a year-over-year electric vehicles sales increase there of 13 percent from 2015 to 2016.

The latest round of fundraising brings ChargePoint’s total of funds raised to more than $255 million. Coinciding with Daimler’s investment, ChargePoint named one of Daimler AG’s executives, Axel Harries, to its board of directors. BMW i Ventures, Linse Capital and others also participated in this latest ChargePoint fundraising round.
