- Sporty, street-truck styling details
- Turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine
- Regular-cab, short-bed configuration only
The newest addition to Ford’s pickup lineup offers drivers the sporty street-truck look straight from the factory. The 2014 F-150 Tremor is a full-size pickup with Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged V6 under the hood and the FX Appearance package, which lends a performance look to complement the 365-horsepower engine. It’s offered only in a regular-cab, short-bed configuration.
The 2014 F-150 Tremor is also Ford’s only regular-cab short-bed with bucket seats and a center console between them. The gear selector for the standard 6-speed automatic is located on the console rather than the column. Adding to the sporty interior look, the two bucket seats are covered in black leather with red piping and black Alcantara (synthetic suede) inserts. The steering wheel has red stitching to match, and the interior accents are brushed metal.
The sporty exterior styling details included with the FX Appearance package lend the F-150 Tremor a performance look and differentiate it from more basic short-wheelbase models. Perhaps most noticeable are the Tremor’s flat black 20-inch wheels, matching trim pieces and standard HID headlights. Body side graphics and Tremor badges in black and red also give away the F-150 Tremor.
Ford says the Tremor offers quick acceleration thanks to a rear axle with a shorter ratio than it uses for any of its other EcoBoost-powered pickups. In fact, the Tremor is the only short-wheelbase — or regular-cab, short-bed — F-150 with the EcoBoost motor. Buyers can opt for either 2-wheel or all-wheel drive, and both come standard with an electronic locking rear differential to effectively put the EcoBoost’s power to the pavement.
Ford has not yet announced pricing or a date of availability for the F-150 Tremor, but we expect it to arrive later this year. For drivers who value sporty looks and performance to match, Ford’s newest full-size may be an excellent choice. But with seating for only two, the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor is limited in its capability. Look to the F-150 FX2 or FX4 if your crew includes more than one other person; both are available immediately, too.
What it means to you: The new F-150 Tremor combines street-truck looks with Ford’s powerful EcoBoost V6 in a short-wheelbase, full-size pickup. It’s available only in a regular-cab configuration with seating for the driver and one passenger.
