Here Are All the Cars With the Vanity License Plate AMG Across the Country

The latest installment in our "what cars across the country have the following vanity plate" series is here. We’ve checked out FERRARI, PORSCHE, FAST, SLOW and many others — and today, we’re looking at AMG. What cars have the vanity license plate AMG across the country? See the Mercedes-Benz models for sale near you

The answer: not many Mercedes AMG models.

Although AMG is taken in 39 states (and possibly more, if it’s registered vehicles that predate the 17-digit VIN, which don’t appear on this list), it’s on an AMG car in just 14 of them: Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming (in county 22).

It isn’t surprising that AMG is registered to a lot of non-AMGs. Vanity plates have been around longer than Mercedes AMG has, and it’s likely that people in many states simply got an AMG vanity plate because those letters are their initials. At least, I hope that explains why AMG is on a 2007 Hyundai Elantra in Virginia and a 2010 Nissan Altima in South Carolina. And, once again, Florida disappoints: AMG doesn’t return to some crazy exotic Miami Mercedes but rather a 2014 Ford Taurus.

What’s more troubling, to me, is the number of fake AMGs the vanity plate appears to be on. For example, do you think there’s any possibility at all that the car with the Mississippi license plate AMG — a 2006 CLS500 — is not covered in about 75 fake AMG badges? Don’t you think that guy in New Mexico debadged his S550 and runs around telling everyone he has an AMG? And I don’t even know what to make of the vehicle with the AMG plate in Maryland, where it’s registered to a ’94 E320 sedan.

Here’s the full list of all the AMG vanity plates. I’ve highlighted in green the states where the license plate is actually on an AMG vehicle. Find a Mercedes-Benz for sale

  1. Just saw a new 911 with an “Alfa 01” NY Plate. Can you include Alfa; Mini; Stang; Olds; Buick; Mopar; Vette; and I’m sure just about every other make over time.

  2. Silly question but did you check the different types of plates in each state? BC NH has several different types of plates such is the case for my Nissan Frontier… I have a Vet. Plate that says “MYJEEP”
