If you’re really into cars and football, Nissan and ESPN may be the exact pair you’re looking for. For the third straight year, the automaker and the sports network are teaming up to give college football fans a chance to imagine what it would be like if Heisman Trophy winners interacted while living together under one roof, known as the Nissan Heisman House.
Starting just in time for the college football season, the Nissan Heisman House comprises a series of comedic 45-second vignettes that air on ESPN during game day, featuring 13 current and former trophy winners heckling one another and horsing around in friendly fashion. The short scenarios can also be viewed online at www.NissanHeismanHouse.com, where fans can learn more about the Heisman winners and watch exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The humorous ad-skits smartly integrate different Nissan models into each storyline.
This year, in addition to Saturday broadcasts and the interactive website, the Nissan Heisman House goes on the road for the first time, traveling to 10 college campuses, leading up to the 2013 Rose Bowl Game. The Nissan Heisman House Tour simulates the real thing, giving college football fans a chance to walk through the house to experience interactive games and historical exhibits, as well as meet some of the trophy’s famed alumni.
The Heisman House signifies Nissan’s ongoing support of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Award. To that end, the creative concept focuses on eight of Nissan’s vehicles and integrates them into the overall campaign. Featured models include the 2014 Altima, Sentra and the recently launched Versa Note.
“The sustainability of the original concept with fresh scripts, new athletes and ability to showcase new vehicles year over year is a tremendous creative story, which is a testament to the power of the idea,” said Sean Hanrahan, senior vice president, Marketing Solutions, ESPN.
This season’s Heisman House features a wide roster of housemates. Returning members include Robert Griffin III, Barry Sanders, Ty Detmer, Ron Dayne, Matt Leinart, Troy Smith, Tim Brown, Carson Palmer and Desmond Howard. Adding to the mix for the first time this year are Sam Bradford, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett and Mike Rozier.
In addition to the entertainment aspect of the Heisman House campaign, college football fans also can vote for the next Heisman winner on the website. “With the online voting for this season’s top Heisman candidates, combined with the fun of seeing past Heisman winners interact with each other, we’re going to capture the attention of sports fans across the country,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc.
