Is There a Better Used Car Deal Than a Kia K900?

I recently checked out the brand-new Kia K900, which is an excellent car with a lot of great luxury equipment, but undoubtedly the best part is the price. While the K900’s rivals are all $70,000 or $80,000, the K900 itself starts at $52,000 — and even a well-equipped one is hard to top $65,000. It’s a bargain in the luxury car world, primarily because of its brand name, and the fact that nobody really knows what it is.

But as good of a deal as the K900 is among new luxury sedans, it’s an even better deal among used ones. The K900 came out for the 2015 model year, and the first generation model was sold through 2018 before being redesigned for the 2019 model year. The first-generation K900 wasn’t so great in base trim, with a V6 with without much equipment — but if you spent more, you got more, including a 420-hp V8 and a lot of tech and luxury. And those are the ones to buy.

Indeed, if you go on Autotrader and search for 2015 K900 models with the V8, there are roughly 150 of them listed for sale right now — and it’s incredibly easy to find one for $25,000 or less. That’s half price, just four years later — and you get a big V8, plush leather seats, and basically all the modern technology you could find back in 2015. Of course, you can also select 2016, 2017 or 2018 models if you want something newer.

Better yet, some of these used K900 models come with Kia’s certified pre-owned warranty, which basically just reinstates Kia’s new factory warranty — meaning it provides powertrain coverage for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles from new. It’s an impressive feat, and it’s rare to get such amazing warranty coverage in a luxury sedan.

Indeed, the K900 is exactly what you want if you’re looking for a used luxury sedan — except the badge. But with prices this low, you have to admit it’s highly tempting to forget about Mercedes-Benz or BMW and get 75% of the car for less than half the money.

  1. There’s a lot of Audi A8’s going for around $30k, certified for not much more.  Personally I think its worth the extra $5k for the Audi.

    • Until 5 years after production date when all the engineering and production problems and foibles rear their ugly head and put the owner severely upside down.  Just a distinct possibility based on historical experience, lol.

  2. Used they seem to be a good option, especially as they can’t lose much more value. New though, they still are a bad buy due to this exact reason, they don’t hold value for crap.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) this is the case for all Korean cars for now. Stinger won’t hold it’s value either.
  3. Absolutely no better deal.  I love them and after dealing with the issues with newer BMWs as well as visiting with a former BMW and Mercedes dealer mechanic this past weekend and hearing all of the issues that they are dealing with nearly all (especially the bimmers), the K900 looks even better.
