Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype: New York Auto Show – Video

The Honda Civic hatchback prototype sat atop a spinning platform at this year’s New York Auto Show, making everyone excited about what we might see when the production model debuts later this year.

What do we know? The production model will have 175 horsepower and offer a 6-speed manual or fuel-saving continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). With the CVT, Honda says the Civic hatch will get up to 42 miles per gallon. But before you start thinking that Honda’s gone soft, the automaker says the manual will offer the same performance as the outgoing Civic Si.

As for the design, some of the unusual touches on the Honda Civic hatchback prototype, such as the highlighter-green fog lights and brake calipers, probably won’t see production (though we kinda wish they would!).

One thing is certain: After years of trunks, Honda is finally back in the hatchback game.
