Even with the wide selection of cars these days, plenty of people still want a good sports car. Luckily, that can be found in the Subaru BRZ — a twin of the sporty Toyota 86 — which starts at around $26,500. Here are some stats on what the 2018 Subaru BRZ has to offer.
7.0-Inch Subaru Starlink
There are a few upgrades offered for this model year, and one to consider is the 7.0-inch Subaru Starlink multimedia system. All trim levels except the base Premium receive Android Auto and Apple Carplay. There’s even Pandora, iHeart Radio and available Sirius XM satellite radio. These are choices that give you some great music and listening options.
2.0-Liter Boxer Engine
The BRZ is powered by a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed boxer engine good for 205 horsepower. That number drops to 200 hp with the 6-speed automatic transmission. Keep in mind it only comes as many say a true sports car should: with rear-wheel drive.
12-Inch Disc Brakes
There’s a unique BRZ trim level called the tS, if you desire more performance. It receives extra performance features, including the STI high performance sport-tuned suspension. There are also 12.8-in disc Brembo Brakes up front and 12.4-in in the back. The tS trim level is limited to only 500 units, but you can add the Performance Package to any BRZ trim level.
The BRZ has standard 17-in alloys, LED headlights and a trunk spoiler. The limited BRZ tS trim level has many unique design touches, like an STI carbon-fiber trunk wing and an STI front strut bar. Plus, moving the car around are beautiful black finish 18-in STI alloys.
One Engine Choice
The 205 hp engine does deliver plenty of fun, but it’s the only engine option for the BRZ. It would be nice if Subaru offered an additional choice — especially for the special BRZ tS trim level, since it’s limited to 500 units.
Subaru is a brand that buyers are loyal to and really trust. If you’re looking for a fun sports car that’s actually affordable, it’s time to check out the 2018 Subaru BRZ.
