<h4>5 Thoughts About the 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance</h4>

The Oversteer team recently received a 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance to drive around metro Atlanta for a week and experience what this luxurious and powerful compact crossover had to offer. The GV60 came adorned in attractive Hanauma Mint exterior paint with a cool Ash Gray and Glacier interior color scheme. The total price of our tester was “TBD,” likely due to this particular vehicle being shipped prior to pricing details being finalized. According to its website, Genesis states the 2024 GV60 Performance starts at $69,550, excluding tax, title, license, and destination charges.

<h4>Thought 1: It’s Quick But Lacks Sharp Handling</h4>

There’s no denying the GV60 is quick, hence the performance bit of its moniker. Reported 0-60 times are about 3.6 seconds, which is neck-snappingly quick and makes driving spicy when desired. The boost button is a fun addition, pouring on about 54 extra horses when pressed, bringing total chutzpah to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds. It’s a feature used in different variations by other manufacturers, but one that harkens back to the days of “Knight Rider” and is always grin-inducing.

While the acceleration and power are impressive and fun, the handling of the GV60 Performance was nothing to write home about. I didn’t have high expectations of slicing through chicanes in a small luxury EV SUV, but it’s easy to tell the focus was more on acceleration when labeled as “Performance.” The handling and ride were consistently comfortable, as you would expect for a vehicle like this, but not tight enough for the quick and sharp maneuvers that enthusiasts seek from a Performance label.

<h4>Thought 2: It’s Stylish</h4>

For a small crossover, the GV60 Performance packs a bunch of style and luxury into a diminutive package. The front fascia resembles the rest of the Genesis lineup and is a quite comely crossover, albeit small. Our tester’s Ash Gray and Glacier interior, while worrisome to keep clean, is visually striking. The leather seats are supple to the touch. The microfiber suede headliner and inserts ooze performance and sophistication. They were also a personal favorite. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the rotating crystal globe that transforms into the gearshift. While offered on all levels of the GV60, it remains an inspired feature that continues to impress, even for the initiated.

<h4>Thought 3: It Knows You Well</h4>

The GV60 is chock full of cool tech features like most of its competitors, but some of the available biometric security measures might surprise you. The GV60 can recognize your face via a camera in the B-pillar for locking and unlocking the vehicle. A fingerprint sensor in the cabin allows access to personal data and valet mode and can even start the car without a smart key. In other words, you can potentially leave your keys at home and drive around town with full access to your vehicle using your face and fingerprints alone. 

Now, this sounds cool, but there were a few times when the vehicle didn’t fully recognize my fingerprints. Could this be user error? Probably. Still, I’d hate to be running from an axe murderer and depending on facial and fingerprint recognition to get it right. But let’s say you lose your keys on the Scream Machine at Six Flags; you’ll likely drive home safe.

<h4>Thought 4: It’s Compact But Comfy</h4>

Despite the compact architecture, the GV60 felt surprisingly comfortable and far roomier than anticipated. The driver’s seat offered 4-way lumbar support, a wonderful option for those with lower back issues like me. The rear seats were comfortable as well and fit actual adults, a bonus for a tiny crossover. Even the rear cargo area offered far more space than anticipated. Renee Valdes, senior editor, Advice praised the recessed compartment for items like laptops or groceries.

<h4>Thought 5: That Price Tag Though</h4>

While our tester vehicle came with a TBD price tag, the Genesis consumer site states the 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance AWD starts at $69,550. Call me frugal or cheap, but that’s a hefty chunk of change to lay down for a sporty electric lux cute ute. I can’t imagine having to explain this purchase to my wife unless it was for her. It’d be an easier sell if I came home with a Porsche, but the smallest SUV from Genesis? Yikes.

<h4>The Wrap: It’s a Whole Lot</h4>

The 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance AWD is undoubtedly an amazing vehicle that offers style, speed, tech, and practicality in heaps. All of that comes with an extra steep price tag, which has to dissuade many potential buyers. That being said, if I lived in a densely populated city like New York or San Francisco and wanted a quick, luxurious, compact EV that wasn’t a Tesla and I had $70K or $80K to spend, the GV60 would be on the top of my list. The problem is that those are very specific criteria. Whether there are many shoppers with a similar checklist and oversized wallet to match is much like the price tag on our tester: to be determined.
