BMW unleashes its second-generation 2022 BMW 2 Series this year. Serving as the gateway to this German maker of luxury performance cars, the 2 Series is classically BMW.
Longer, wider, and lower than the model it replaces, the redesigned 2 Series is more impressive in every way.
Not only is the body larger, but it’s better defined and more athletic in appearance. The new kidney grille looks more aggressive, sporting vertical air flaps with 10 stages of opening.
Two twin-turbo engines lay the foundation for the two distinct models. The 230i uses a 4-cylinder turbo, while the M240i relies on an inline-6-cylinder turbo.
Configured as rear-wheel (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), the 2 Series adheres closely to the BMW playbook.

2022 BMW 230i (Starting at $36,350)
Although an AWD 230i xDrive will follow later in the model year, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) 230i arrives in BMW showrooms in the fall of 2021.
Powering the 230i falls to a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Generating 255 horsepower, it makes 295 lb-ft of peak torque. That’s a boost of 7 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque over the previous 2-Series.
According to BMW, the turbo four and its 8-speed automatic transmission with launch control conspire to push you to 60 miles per hour from a standstill in 5.5 seconds. Depending on the tires, the top speed is 130 mph or 155 mph.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yet to release fuel-economy numbers.
Among the standard equipment in the 230i are 18-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tires, LED headlights and taillights, and Active Drive Assistant with blind-spot detection, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning with emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. Parking sensors and speed-adjusted steering assist are also standard.
Inside are power-adjustable sport seats, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat, and tri-zone automatic climate control.
An 8.8-inch touchscreen, navigation system, 10-speaker audio system, satellite-radio capability, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and auto-dimming interior-exterior mirrors are standard.
Running up the price with extras is easy to do when checking boxes for the option packages. We think the 230i is a good deal and provides enough performance for most drivers. An option package or two further spices things up.
If you like the M appearance, but hate the M price, pick up the M Sport Package with upgraded wheels and rubber, Variable Sport Steering, M Sport suspension, aerodynamic kit, rear spoiler, and more.
The Parking Assistance Package adds automatic parallel-parking assist, Active Park Assist Control, and 360-degree surround-view cameras.
Opting for the Premium Package adds features like a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, adaptive front headlights with high-beam assist, head-up display, and more.
Adding the $995 destination charge to the base price brings the total to 37,345. Financing for 60 months at a rate of 3% interest equals a monthly payment of $642. Find a BMW 230i for sale

2022 BMW M240i xDrive (Starting at $48,550)
Just about everything separating the 230i from the M240i is performance related. A RWD version of the M240i is coming later. In the meantime, the M240i is only available with AWD xDrive.
Under the hood of the M240i lurks a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine. It develops 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. This is a 47-pony increase over the outgoing model.
The same 8-speed automatic transmission spreads engine power among the four wheels. Reaching 60 mph from a stop takes 4.1 seconds by BMW’s count. The top speeds are identical to the 230i.
The EPA has yet to provide estimated mileage for the M240i.
Over and above the 230i’s standard features, the M240i has 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport rear differential, M Sport brakes with blue calipers, Adaptive M suspension, and Variable Sport Steering.
Other M240i goodies include keyless entry, power moonroof, M Sport steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, rear spoiler, and aerodynamic kit.
The M240i also offers the same Premium Package and Parking Assistant Package available to the 230i.
Adding the $995 destination charge to the $48,550 base price brings the total purchase price to $49,545. At 3% interest, financing for 60 months would carry a monthly payment of $851. Find a BMW M240i xDrive for sale
