2022 Maserati Ghibli: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2022 Maserati Ghibli returns with a streamlined trim-level lineup.

If you don’t want to see yourself coming and going at every intersection in your Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Audi A6, may we suggest the Ghibli?

However, if you do pick the Maserati, expect to pony up more cash for the entry-level versions because Maserati doesn’t offer a turbo 4-cylinder starter engine.

Nope. Maserati powers Ghibli with either a twin-turbo V6 or a twin-turbo V8. You’ll notice the difference the moment either one roars to life.

We like Ghibli for those two beefy engine choices and the drop-dead-gorgeous Italian styling inside and out.

For 2022, the trim-level rundown is GT, Modena, Modena Q4, and Trofeo.

A 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 provides the thrust for the GT and Modena. In the GT, it delivers 345 horsepower and 424 hp in the Modena.

The GT is strictly rear-wheel drive (RWD). Modena comes standard with RWD, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is a $2,900 upcharge for the Modena Q4.

A ZF 8-speed automatic transmission ushers engine production to the wheels no matter the number of drive wheels nor the engine.

The Trofeo sources its go from a 580-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. Maserati only offers it in RWD.

According to government estimates, the RWD V6 delivers 18 miles per gallon in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg in combined driving. Opt for AWD, and it drops slightly to 16 mpg/24 mpg/19 mpg.

The estimated mileage with the V8 is 13 mpg city/20 mpg highway/16 mpg combined.
