Having received a mid-cycle facelift in 2021, the 2022 Toyota Camry returns with few changes.
One notable enhancement, the dual-zone automatic climate control, moves from the options list to the standard content for the LE and SE grades.
Standard across all trim levels is Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. Included driver aids are forward-collision warning with auto emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with steering assist, and lane-keeping assist.
Adaptive cruise control and high-beam assist are also part of the Safety Sense package.
Still a star performer on the sales floor despite the tectonic shift to crossovers and SUVs, Camry retains its reputation for reliability, solid resale value, and safety.
Camry is still more about family transportation than hair-on-fire fun, but the current generation has the distinction of being a bit of a head-turner. No other generation of Camry could even begin to make that boast.
Also, if you want at least a taste of adventure in your Camry, the SE, TRD, and XSE heat things up a bit.
Camry is comfy, quiet, and technologically current. It’s an ideal platform for families on the go.
Anchoring the model lineup is the LE, followed by the SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, XSE, and TRD.
Camry sources its go from the standard 4-cylinder engine. A V6 is optional on XLE and XSE but standard on the TRD.
All-wheel drive (AWD) is available on 4-cylinder versions with an upcharge of $1,400.
No matter the engine or number of drive wheels, an 8-speed automatic transmission hustles output to the rubber.
The government estimates the fuel economy for the 4-cylinder at 28 miles per gallon in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 32 mpg in combined driving.
Those numbers drop to 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined with AWD.
Opt for the V6 on the XSE, and the estimated mileage is 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. On the XLE, the highway number increases by 1 mpg.
The 2022 Camry also comes as a hybrid.
Key competitors for Camry include the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu, and Hyundai Sonata.
2022 Toyota Camry LE (starting at $25,295)
The LE is fairly well equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, 10 airbags, and an 8-way power driver’s seat.
The infotainment features include a 7-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, multiple USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is also standard, as is LED exterior lighting (headlights with auto on-off, taillights, and daytime running lights).
You can opt for the $680 blind-spot monitoring, which also includes rear cross-traffic alert.
For another $1,280, you can add the Cold Weather Package with a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and heated outboard mirrors.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the LE base price brings the total to $26,323. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $473 per month. See 2022 Toyota Camry LE models for sale
2022 Toyota Camry LE Includes:
- Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-it-and-forget-it system, it divides the vehicle into left and right regions. It provides separate temperature settings for each region. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – Allows these smartphone features to interface with your vehicle.
- Safety Sense 2.5+ – This is a suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control and high-beam assist.
2022 Toyota Camry SE (starting at $26,835)
If you want a little sportiness in your Camry, the SE is the place to start. It comes with a slightly stiffer suspension, a black grille with mesh insert, color-keyed rocker panels and rear spoiler, and a 4.2-inch driver-info display.
Other standard content includes 18-inch alloy wheels, upgraded seating material, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel with paddle shifters.
Also available is blind-spot monitoring, but for the SE, it’s $600.
The Cold Weather Package is less ($1,100), as well.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the SE base price equals $27,860. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $501. See 2022 Toyota Camry SE models for sale
2022 Toyota Camry SE Includes:
Sport-tuned suspension – This adds sport-tuned shocks and springs.
Leather-trimmed steering wheel – This wheel is accented with leather and includes redundant controls for the audio system, as well as paddle shifters to change the gears manually.
18-inch alloy wheels – These replace the 17-inch alloy ones on the LE.
2022 Toyota Camry SE Nightshade (starting at $27,535)
Nightshade is nothing more than a blacked-out appearance package for the SE. All the exterior trim, door handles, outboard mirrors, and wheels are black.
Nightshade qualifies for most of the SE’s option packages.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the SE Nightshade base price comes to $28,560. Putting no money down, you can finance for 60 months at 3% interest for a monthly payment of $513.
2022 Toyota Camry XLE (starting at $30,045)
The XLE loses the Nightshade’s black accents and the SE’s suspension tuning. However, it gains outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals, wireless phone charging, and dynamic guidelines on the back-up camera.
Other standard features are a 7-inch driver-info display, an 8-way power front passenger seat, leather-trimmed heated front seats, upgraded adaptive cruise control, and wood interior accents.
An auto-dimming rearview mirror, the Smart Key with push-button start, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and ambient interior lighting are included.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard for the XLE trim.
Moving up to the V6 adds $5,125 to the bottom line of the XLE and the XSE. Picking up the V6 also includes a 10-inch head-up display (HUD).
Available for $1,760 is a Navigation Package with a navigation system and an upgraded JBL audio system.
Also optional is the $1,430 Driver Assistance Package with a 10-inch head-up display (HUD), surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic braking, and ventilated front seats.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the XLE base price brings the total to $31,070. Financing with no money down at 3% interest works out to $558 per month. See 2022 Toyota Camry XLE models for sale
2022 Toyota Camry XLE Includes:
- Leather-trimmed front seats – Trimmed in leather, these are 8-way power-adjustable heated seats.
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror – Using photosensors, it recognizes bright headlights closing from behind. It then automatically dims the reflection of those lights.
- Blind-spot monitoring – This radar-based system warns of vehicles coming up on your flanks. It also includes rear cross-traffic alert to warn of vehicles crossing behind you when in reverse.
2022 Toyota Camry XSE (starting at $30,595)
There’s not much daylight ($550) between the price of the XLE and XSE.
The XSE does get back the SE’s sport-tuned suspension and appearance cues (body-colored rocker panels, door handles, black-mesh grille, and so forth.
It also adds 19-inch alloy wheels and metal accents in the cabin.
It qualifies for the Driver Assist and Navigation Packages.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the XSE base price totals $31,620. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $568. See 2022 Toyota Camry XSE models for sale
2022 Toyota Camry XSE Includes:
- 19-inch alloy wheels – These wheels are gloss-black.
- Sport-tuned suspension – This adds sport-tuned shocks and springs.
- Metal interior accents – Metal replaces the XLE’s wood accents.
2022 Toyota Camry TRD (starting at $32,360)
When you consider the V6 is standard in the TRD but a $5,125 option in the XLE and XSE, the TRD is quite the bargain.
It does, however, lose a few features here and there, like the dynamic lines on the backup camera, the leather-trimmed seats, the auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
The XSE adds some black exterior accents, a black spoiler, unique TRD instrumentation, aluminum pedals, and red stitching on the shift knob and instrument panel.
Opting for the available JBL Audio Package will tack on $1,585 to the total price.
Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the TRD base price equals $33,385. Financing with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest costs $600 per month. See 2022 Toyota Camry TRD models for sale
2022 Toyota Camry TRD Includes:
- V6 engine – This 3.5-liter V6 generates 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.
- Aluminum pedals – These are aluminum sport pedals.
- TRD accents – Inside and out, there are unique TRD treatments, such as red stitching on the instrument panel and TRD instrumentation.
