2023 Jaguar I-Pace: Choosing the Right Trim

Making a return performance, the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace 5-passenger, fully electric (EV) SUV remains a one-grade model. Last year, Jaguar reduced the I-Pace trims to just one, focusing on the HSE. EV competitors for the I-Pace include the Audi e-tron and the Tesla Model X.

Jaguar has rearranged the standard content a bit for 2023. A wireless phone charger is now standard, and Jaguar has relegated the head-up display to the options bin. The I-Pace also now features Amazon Alexa voice control, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

Jaguar has pretty much kept the lid on the price, too. At $71,300, the 2023 I-Pace is up only $1,400 over last year’s model, despite the upgraded features.

Maintaining our enthusiasm for the I-Pace are its stunning exterior lines, energetic driving dynamics, elegant cabin, and its killer 5-year/60,000-mile warranty. Incidentally, the warranty includes scheduled maintenance to further sweeten the deal. Jaguar warranties the battery for eight years.

Fed by a 90-kWh battery array, two electric motors conspire to generate a total of 394 horsepower. Moreover, torque — available the instant you step on the accelerator — is a whopping 512 lb-ft. A motor sits astride each axle, providing all-wheel drive (AWD). The government hasn’t issued a mileage estimate at the time of this writing. Making the run from a standstill to 60 miles per hour requires just 4.5 seconds.

Providing the I-Pace with some additional performance chops, Jaguar includes hill-start assist, torque vectoring, JaguarDrive Control, and an air suspension. Torque vectoring uses the antilock brakes to vary the speed of spin of the wheels on the same axle to enhance handling. JaguarDrive Control is a driver-configurable multimode drivetrain system with ECO, Comfort, Dynamic, and Rain/Ice/Snow modes.

2023 Jaguar I-Pace HSE (starting at $71,300)

2023 Jaguar I-Pace Interior

When Jaguar offered three I-Pace trim levels, the HSE topped the grade lineup. So, if you expect a rich standard content list with the 2023 HSE, you won’t be disappointed.

Among the standard features are 20-inch alloy wheels, power-folding outboard rearview mirrors, a power rear liftgate, and a fixed panoramic roof. Also included are LED exterior lights (tail lights, auto on-off headlights, and daytime running lights), rain-sensing wipers, rear fog lights, and a HomeLink universal garage remote. Windsor leather seating, 16-way power-adjustable heated/cooled front seats, and a heated 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat are also standard. Other features are a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote key-fob control of the climate system.

Helping to keep the passengers safe and ease driver stress is a bundle of safety and driver-aid technologies. Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are among them. Also standard are front/rear park assist, driver-alert warning, traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist.

On the tech and entertainment end are an infotainment system featuring a 10-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch gauge display, and a 15-speaker Meridian 3D surround-sound audio system. Also included are wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, satellite-radio capability, Bluetooth, navigation, and multiple USB ports.

As you might expect, options are very limited. To gain the Cold Climate Pack with a heated windshield, heated steering wheel and headlight power wash, you need to kick in another $550. Adding a surround-view camera (which comes with Park Assist) requires $900. A hands-free power rear liftgate adds $100 to the bottom line. Opting for the head-up display will set you back $1,000.

Adding the $1,150 destination fee to the HSE base price brings the total to $72,450. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to $1,302 per month. See 2023 Jaguar I-Pace HSE models for sale.
