As with its larger Range Rover sibling, the 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport steps on stage with a complete redesign. This sprawling makeover touches the exterior styling, cabin furnishings, and technology, including a 6-cylinder-based plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model.
A bit smaller than its Range Rover namesake, the Range Rover Sport looks and acts the part of a high-end people mover. If your goal is not only to impress bystanders at the country club portico but to strike the valet parking attendants speechless, the Range Rover Sport fills the bill.
Land Rover separates the midsize Range Rover Sport into four grades: the base SE, Dynamic SE, Autobiography, and First Edition.
The SE models source their power from a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder mild-hybrid (MHEV) engine. A twin-turbo V8 spins the wheels of the First Edition. Mating an electric motor with an inline 6-cylinder provides the go for the Autobiography PHEV. No matter the engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission hustles torque to the wheels.
Every Range Rover Sport comes out of the box with an adjustable air suspension and all-wheel drive (AWD). Its Terrain Response 2 system (which responds to changing terrain) and available Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control add to the Range Rover Sport’s genuine off-road creds.
The Range Rover Sport proffers two large digital displays on the technology front. In front of the driver is a 13.7-inch driver-information display, including gauges. A floating 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest Pivi Pro interface sits to the right. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto help keep the troops in touch. Range Rover Sport provides Software Over the Air (SOTA), too.
We like the Range Rover Sport for its unapologetic lavishness, impressive powertrains, serious off-road chops, and the rich Land Rover legacy.
We still await a complete breakdown of each trim level’s standard features. However, we have a pretty good idea of content by grade.
2023 Land Rover Range Rover SE (starting at $83,000)
We can hardly refer to the Range Rover SE as entry-level. It shares its carried-over 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline-6-cylinder MHEV powertrain with the Dynamic SE. In the case of the SE, this engine produces 355 horsepower. Range Rover retunes it for the Dynamic SE, coaxing out another 40 ponies for 395 hp. We expect both of these versions to deliver about 19 miles per gallon city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
The SE comes standard with 21-inch alloy wheels, self-leveling LED headlights and taillights, heated power-folding outboard mirrors, and an auto-dimming driver’s side outboard mirror. Also included are dual-zone automatic climate control, 22-way memory power-adjustable front seats, and power-recline second-row seats. Other features are perforated Windsor Leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 13.7-inch driver display. Proximity keyless entry with push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power rear liftgate, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and high-beam assist are also standard.
The SE’s infotainment system complements its 13.1-inch touchscreen with a 15-speaker Meridian audio system and Bluetooth to keep everyone entertained and connected. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard, as well. The Pivi Pro interface includes a haptic response, so drivers don’t need to take their eyes off the road to know touchscreen input is achieved.
The bundle of safety and driver-aid technologies is extensive. It includes a forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera, a front-rear park assist, and a driver-alert warning. Adaptive cruise control with steering assist, lane-keeping assist, rain-sensing wipers, and traffic-sign recognition are also included.
Land Rover offers several option packs. For example, the $640 Cold Climate Pack gains you a heated windshield, heated washer jets, and a heated steering wheel. Pony up $1,785 for the Technology Pack with a ClearSight digital rearview camera mirror, 110-volt household power outlets, and a head-up display.
Adding the $1,350 destination fee to the SE base price brings the total to $84,350. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $1,516 per month. See 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SE models for sale
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SE includes:
Power-adjustable front seats – With 22 adjustments, these fully powered front seats are heated, ventilated, and enabled with a massage function.
Adaptive cruise control with steering – This is a semi-autonomous system that can help the driver accelerate, brake, and steer the vehicle under certain conditions.
Surround-view camera – It provides a 360-degree bird’s-eye view around the vehicle. This is particularly valuable when parking.
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE (starting at $90,000)
The Dynamic SE builds on the SE, adding more horsepower, a power panoramic roof, more leather-covered interior elements, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Land Rover offers many of the same option packs in the Dynamic SE as it does in the SE.
Adding the destination fee to the Dynamic SE base price totals $91,350. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to about $1,641 per month. See 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE models for sale
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE includes:
Panoramic roof – This elongated glass roof stretches over the front-row and second-row seats, providing plenty of sunlight and fresh air when opened.
Blind-spot monitoring – This radar-based system warns of traffic approaching your flanks.
Rear cross-traffic alert – A warning system detects traffic crossing behind you when the Range Rover Sport is in reverse.
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Autobiography (starting at $104,200)
This is the PHEV model in the Range Rover Sport lineup. It uses Land Rover’s 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine mated with a 105-kW electric motor and 38.2-kWh battery to produce a combined 434 hp. It launches from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds and promises an electric-only range of up to 48 miles. This is a new PHEV powertrain. Consequently, the EPA fuel-economy ratings are not yet available.
Building on the Dynamic SE, the Autobiography adds 21-inch alloy wheels, semi-aniline leather seating, a suede-cloth headliner, and quad-zone automatic climate control. Illuminated seat-belt buckles, a head-up display, and the ClearSight digital rearview camera mirror are also standard. A 19-speaker Meridian 3D surround-sound audio system is included, as well.
Land Rover offers the Cold Climate Pack and the $470 Convenience Pack with a hands-free power rear liftgate as options.
Adding the $1,350 destination fee to the Autobiography’s base price equals $105,550. Financing with 3% interest for 60 months with no money down costs approximately $1,897 per month. See 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Autobiography models for sale
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Autobiography includes:
Quad-zone automatic climate control – It separates the vehicle into four zones, one each for the driver and front passenger and one each for the two second-row outboard seating positions.
Head-up display – A projector on the dashboard at the windshield base displays critical driver information on the windshield just below the driver’s line of sight.
PHEV powertrain – This is a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine and an electric motor teaming up to produce 434 hp. Land Rover estimates it can travel up to 48 miles with electric-only propulsion.
2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport First Edition (starting at $121,500)
The First Edition sources its power from a 523-hp, 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine. Land Rover claims a zero-to-60 sprint of 4.3 seconds. This is a new engine entry for the Range Rover Sport. The EPA rates this Range Rover Sport at 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway/18 mpg combined.
Beyond the engine, its 22-inch alloy wheels, and upgraded leather interior, there doesn’t seem much else separating the First Edition from lower trims.
The Cold Climate Pack and Convenience Pack are still options.
Adding the destination fee to the First Edition base price brings the total to $122,850. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $2,207 per month. See 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport First Edition models for sale
