The BMW 5 Series enters an all-new generation for 2024. Historically, this BMW has been one of the world’s leading midsize luxury sedans. With an engaging driving character, a premium interior, and the latest tech, it’s not hard to see why the 5 Series is an aspirational car. It competes with the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Genesis G80. If you’re shopping in this segment, it’s worth noting that the 5 Series and E-Class are both all-new for 2024.
Although the new 2024 BMW 5 Series has only a few trims, multiple options can dramatically change the car’s character.

Our Recommendation:
The standard 4-cylinder engine delivers more than enough oomph for daily driving duties, so the 530i is the prudent choice for most buyers. Whether the xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is worth an extra $2,300 might depend on your local climate.
We strongly recommend the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds a long list of safety tech features, including full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and even hands-free driving when the conditions are right.

2024 BMW 530i: $57,900
The all-new 2024 BMW 530i is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine also has a mild hybrid system with a 48-volt starter generator, aiding fuel economy.
Standard exterior features on the 5 Series include 19-inch alloy wheels, power-folding mirrors, a power moonroof, and satin aluminum-line exterior trim. Alpine White is the only color that doesn’t cost extra. Most metallic paint options cost an extra $650, and premium paint options can go as high as $3,600.
Step inside the 5 Series, and you’ll be treated to standard features like perforated Veganza synthetic leather upholstery, an Anthracite headliner, dual-zone automatic climate control, a universal garage door opener, and a wireless charging pad. Dark oak wood interior trim is standard, but there are a few no-cost trim options, including dark graphite, open-pore ash wood, and aluminum.
Every 5 Series has a high-tech BMW Curved Display. It houses a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch iDrive 8.5 infotainment system screen. This system is loaded with features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, navigation, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
Standard safety features include front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high beams, and Active Driving Assistant. This bundles forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning.
Several option packages can add to the luxury, technology, and sportiness of the 5 Series. A Convenience Package ($750) adds niceties like a remote start, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. A pricier and more luxurious Premium Package ($2,550) includes the contents of the Convenience Package plus an interior camera, full LED headlights with cornering lights, Parking Assistant Plus, a head-up display, and Natural Interaction with voice and gesture controls.
To maximize the luxury in the 5 Series, you’ll want the Executive Package ($4,450). It comes with everything in the Premium Package, a Sky Lounge panoramic roof, a power rear sunshade and side window shades, glass controls, and full-speed adaptive cruise control.
One of our favorite option packages is the Driving Assistance Professional Package ($2,500), which requires the Premium or Executive Packages. It adds advanced safety tech features like Active Driving Assistant Pro, Highway Assistant, full-speed adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assistant, hands-free driving up to 85 mph on closed access highways, active lane-change, evasion assistant, and front/rear cross-traffic alert.
A Luxury Seating Package ($1,350) brings Multi-Contour front seats, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. It requires either the Convenience, Premium, or Executive Packages.
The M Sport Package ($3,000) turns the 530i into more of a sport sedan. In addition to a sporty appearance package inside and out, this 530i has Shadowline trim, sporty wheels, M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes with blue calipers, and an M steering wheel.
Additionally, an M Sport Professional Package ($1,050) builds on the M Sport Package by further adding an Iconic Glow kidney grille, your choice of red or blue brake calipers, M Shadowline lights, a rear spoiler, and extended Shadowline trim.
Highlights among the numerous available individual options include Extended Merino Leather ($2,450), the Sky Lounge roof ($600), an Iconic Glow kidney grille ($500), heated front and rear seats ($500), adaptive cruise control ($650), and a Bowers and Wilkins audio system ($950).
