The 2024 BMW i7 wraps decades of BMW car-building expertise in a platform relatively new to the industry. The electric-powered i7 does everything its 7 Series siblings can, but at a quicker pace and without burning a drop of fossil fuel.
Unlike the Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS, the i7’s design language closely mirrors that of the internal combustion 7 Series cars, leaving the futuristic design to its competitors. On the flip side, the i7 interior shines brightly and is far more sophisticated than you get with a Tesla Model S.
For 2024, BMW expands the i7 lineup, giving buyers a lower-cost rear-drive option and a high-performance M model.
Let’s see which is right for you.
What’s New:
BMW adds a new rear-drive i7 eDrive50 model that extends its range to 321 miles. At the other end of the performance spectrum is the new i7 M70, a monster sedan generating 650 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
Our Recommendation:
We like the xDrive60 because it combines performance, features, and price. We’d add the Premium Package, Driving Assistance Professional Package, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, just for good measure.
CEOs who don’t drive should consider the i7’s Rear Executive Lounge Seating.
These are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $995 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2024 BMW i7 eDrive50: $106,695
The newest edition to the i7 lineup features a rear-drive platform with a single electric motor producing 449 hp. This design removes some of the year-round traction afforded by the all-wheel drive xDrive60, but it also allows for greater range, up to 321 miles.
In a nod to the ultimate safe driving machine, BMW equips the i7 with a plethora of sophisticated driver aids, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, speed limit info, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic detection. Automatic high-beam headlights and front and rear parking sensors also come standard.
Acoustic pedestrian protection generates a unique sound that alerts nearby cyclists and pedestrians to your presence.
Even more systems are available in the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds lane-keeping assist, front cross-traffic detection, and hands-free semi-autonomous driving on select highways. Adaptive cruise control is also an option, part of the Premium Package, which we think should be standard in a car that is this expensive.
The i7 eDrive50 rides on 19-inch Aerodynamic gunmetal gray alloy wheels wearing run-flat tires. Under its distinctive skin are an adaptive self-leveling air suspension system, Integral Active Steering with rear-axle steering, and specially designed brakes that repel water buildup from the rotors. The eDrive50 features adaptive LED headlights, power-folding heated side mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming glass, rain-sensing wipers with headlight control, and a power-opening rear trunk.
BMW’s Comfort Access keyless entry lets you unlock the doors and start the vehicle without removing the fob from your purse or pocket. Soft-close doors pull themselves shut.
The Advanced Vehicle and Key Memory remember the most recent settings for climate controls, driver’s seat, outside mirrors, audio, and central lighting preferences.
Clever touches include a passenger side mirror that tilts down when the i7 is backing up, ground-illuminating lights, an LED Light Carpet (forms a carpet of light that leads to the doors), and power sunshades for the rear window and rear door glass.
Luxury elements inside the i7 range from a massive curved digital instrument and infotainment screen to a full-color head-up display. The infotainment section can be controlled by voice or through the iDrive controller. It includes navigation, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
Also included are BMW ConnectedDrive services, with access to features like on-street parking information, traffic updates, a stolen vehicle locator, and a voice-activated onboard assistant.
A wireless charging pad, numerous USB-C charge ports, and over-the-air updates all come with the price of admission, as do rear-seat door panels that include 5.5-inch display screens for controlling the audio, power sunshades, and seat adjustment settings.
A Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system with 17 speakers and a 655-watt 11-channel amplifier is an audiophile’s dream (although an optional system by the same manufacturer is even better).
The i7’s interior is awash in rich Merino leather, Fineline open-pore wood trim, and numerous fine touches like the glass controls on the center console.
Additional luxury touches include a 3-spoke power tilt/telescoping heated steering wheel, multifunction power front seats including power adjustments for shoulder and thigh support, heated and ventilated front seats, heated multifunction rear seats, multicolor ambient interior lighting, and 4-zone automatic climate control.
Options for the i7 include wheels ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches, exterior styling upgrade packages, various colors for the Merino leather upholstery, and several wood or carbon-fiber trim choices.
The Premium Package ($1,750) adds adaptive cruise control, Parking Assistant Professional, an illuminated kidney grille, and a 3D Surround View camera.
The Executive Package ($3,700) adds Crystal LED headlights, power-operated opening-and-closing doors, and massaging front seats.
The M Sport Package ($3,900) is primarily an appearance package, which adds revised fascias and side skirts, Shadowline exterior trim, 20-inch M wheels, and an M steering wheel.
The Luxury Rear Seating Package ($1,500) adds ventilated and massaging rear seats. The M Sport Professional Package ($950) brings M Sport brakes with black or blue calipers, extended Shadowline trim, and a rear spoiler.
Specific package features such as the rear seat theater, panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof, massaging front seats, and M Sport brakes (with blue calipers) can be purchased as standalone options, along with an even more impressive Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 39 speakers and a 1,965-watt amp.

Dual electric motors – Electric vehicles instantly deliver 100% of their torque, helping the M70 reach 60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds.
Launch Control – This electronic aid helps keep the tires planted and the car moving in a straight line when mashing the accelerator to the floor.
Massaging front seats – What better way to relax when driving than with seats that gently massage your back and legs?
Thanks for this – very helpful. There is one thing I’m trying to research and I get contradictory information. What I’d like to know is if the rear seats can be folded back, even if you go for multi-function seats. Depending on the source I get – i) no back seats can be folded, ii) only the middle back seat can be folded, and iii) all back seats can be folded down depending upon the trim (but not information on which trim). It’s a mystery! Any information you have would be much appreciated…
Hello Jason, thanks for the kind words. We did a little digging and it appears the i7 does not offer a folding rear seat, only a pass through behind the rear seat center armrest.
