The 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid delivers exceptional fuel economy in a modern, compact SUV ideal for those with an eye for style. The Sportage Hybrid straddles the fence between the gas-only Sportage and the Sportage Plug-in (PHEV), both reviewed separately. As such, the hybrid has the best of both worlds and a price to match, delivering over 500 miles of driving range without the need to stop and recharge its battery.
Kia offers the Sportage Hybrid in three trims: LX, EX, and SX Prestige. All three use a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor generating a segment-best 227 horsepower. A lithium-ion battery stores the juice. The base LX trim is a front-drive model. All-wheel drive is optional on the LX and standard on the EX and SX Prestige trims.
Other compact hybrid SUVs worth a test drive include the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, and Honda CR-V hybrid, all with fuel economy figures reasonably close to the Sportage Hybrid. However, when it comes to warranty, only the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid can match the Sportage Hybrid’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid LX: $28,290
The entry-level LX is the only Sportage Hybrid to offer the choice between front-drive and all-wheel drive (AWD). The advantage for those not needing AWD is better fuel economy.
The LX includes a complete digest of standard safety equipment courtesy of Kia’s Drive Wise driver-assist suite. The mix consists of forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-following assist. Rear parking sensors, automatic high-beam headlights, rear occupant alert, and driver-attention warning are also standard.
Other safety systems include hill start assist, trailer stability assist, a tire pressure monitor, and a full airbag complement, including front and rear seat-mounted side airbags.
Moving to the exterior, we find 17-inch alloy wheels, projector-style LED exterior lights (auto on-off headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights), and front-rear skid plates. Rear privacy glass, intermittent wipers, a rear decklid spoiler, and remote keyless entry round out the exterior highlights.
The LX cabin is surprisingly well appointed, with durable cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat with recline.
Interior amenities include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, a 12.2-inch digital cluster, a 4.2-inch driver-information display, extendable sun visors, and dual-zone automatic climate control with auto-defog and second-row seat air vents.
The infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and one USB port. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included, as is HD Radio.
Adding AWD brings a locking center differential, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, a space-saver spare tire (replaces the tire inflator kit), and a dual-level cargo floor.

Dual-zone automatic climate control — A set-and-forget system, it divides the vehicle into left and right regions and provides separate temperature settings for each. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — Allows your smartphone to interface with your vehicle. Not only can you access the music on your phone, but you can also send messages, receive messages, make calls, and so forth through your vehicle’s media system.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX: $31,990
We could live quite happily with the EX Hybrid. It has a comprehensive standard features list but is still affordable.
The EX adds all-wheel drive, a locking center differential, heated side mirrors, a compact spare tire, and heated front seats. It also has 18-inch alloy wheels, power outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals, rain-sensing wipers, a proximity keyless entry key fob, and a roof rack.
The EX cabin gains faux-leather seating, a push-button starter, one-touch up/down power front windows, rear USB-C charging ports, a wireless charging pad, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar support.
The EX audio system upgrades to a 12.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, voice recognition, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
A power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, and LED interior lighting come with an EX Premium Package.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige: $37,190
Building on the EX with the optional Premium Package, the SX Prestige adds LED fog lights, a heated and tinted windshield, and heated windshield-wiper nozzles.
Also standard are a 12.3-inch TFT curved digital cluster, upgraded faux-leather seating, driver’s seat memory, a heated steering wheel, multi-colored LED ambient interior lighting, and an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat.
Ventilated front seats, a curved 12.3-inch touchscreen, illuminated sun visor mirrors, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system are also included.
Additional driver-aid features include front park assist, rear park assist with braking, a blind-spot view monitor, and a surround-view monitor. Remote Smart Parking Assist lets you move your Sportage in or out of a parking spot while standing outside the vehicle and using the key fob.
Kia also includes its Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous driving aid and navigation-based adaptive cruise control.
Kia doesn’t offer any factory-installed options for the SX Prestige Hybrid.
