2024 Land Rover Defender: Choosing the Right Trim

If you’re seeking an SUV as luxurious as it is off-road capable, look no further than the 2024 Land Rover Defender. Land Rover offers this capable beast in three sizes: the 2-door, 5-passenger Defender 90; 4-door, 5-passenger Defender 100; and 3-row, 8-passenger Defender 130.

Land Rover offers a variety of engines in the Defender, starting with a 296-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder (P300). You can also get a 395-hp 6-cylinder mild hybrid (P400) and two supercharged V8 engines, one producing 493 hp (P500) and the other 518 hp (P525).

Depending on the model, you find numerous trim choices. Available on the 90, 110, and 130 are the S, X-Dynamic SE, and V8 trims. The 130 and 110 share the Defender X trim, while the 110 and the 90 share the Carpathian Edition. Unique to the 130 is the new Outbound trim.

All Defender models have all-wheel drive, a 2-speed high-/low-range transfer case, and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Competitors with similar qualities but varying degrees of price include the Lexus GX, Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Prices are current at the time of publishing.

Luxurious but not averse to getting dirty: the blocky interior of the 2024 Land Rover Defender.

What’s New:

The base Defender model has been dropped, leaving the S as the entry-level trim. A new Outbound trim is added to the Defender 130. It removes the third-row seat and rearmost windows, creating a larger cargo area.

The 110 SE and 130 models get a new supercharged V8 producing 493 hp. The 110 also receives a new County Exterior Package with a two-tone paint job, 20-inch wheels, and unique interior trim.

Our Recommendation:

With so many trims from which to choose, the right choice comes down to what you need in an SUV. We think the X-Dynamic SE offers the most features and options. If you’ve got the cash, the supercharged V8 models thrill on the road and off.
