The stylish 2024 Polestar 2 incorporates a liftback design with a lifted sedan body, creating a compact EV on par with the Tesla Model 3, Volvo C40 Recharge, Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, and BMW i4. Some buyers might even cross-shop it with the Kia EV6.
Polestar has made significant updates this year, increasing range, battery capacity, and equipment. Last year’s front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout gets dropped in favor of a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) design, with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) models getting a rear bias for improved handling.

2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor: $49,900
The single-motor Polestar 2 gets an improved 82-kWh battery pack, extending this electric vehicle’s (EV) range to 320 miles. The rear-mounted electric motor produces 299 hp, permitting a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds.
New standard driver-assists this year include a blind-spot monitor with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear parking sensor with automatic braking. They join forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection assist, lane-departure warning and assist, lane-keeping assist, and road-sign recognition.
There’s a driver attention monitor to warn of drowsy or inattentive driving and pixel LED headlights with automatic high beams, plus 12 sensors and four cameras to provide a 360-degree viewing field around the vehicle.
A quick walk around the Polestar 2’s exterior reveals lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels and power-folding, wide-angle side mirrors that are heated and electrically adjustable. These auto-dimming mirrors also have a curb-view in reverse feature.
Additional standard equipment includes touch-operated locking and unlocking door handles, rain-sensing wipers, and a power liftgate.
Venturing inside, we enjoyed the form-fitting semi-electric heated front seats with driver’s power lumbar support and memory. The seats move back and forth under electric power but recline manually.
A 60/40-split folding rear seat with a ski hatch pass-through behind the fold-down center armrest makes it easy to fit all manner of cargo and people.
Embossed textile fabric covers the seats.
In our time with the Polestar 2, we appreciated its many standard amenities. They include dual-zone automatic climate control with cabin air filter, ambient interior lighting, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and pre-entry climate conditioning to heat or cool the cabin before entering.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides vital readouts, while an 11.2-inch center display provides infotainment and climate controls.
The Polestar 2’s infotainment system is powered by Google Built-in, granting access to voice-activated Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Home integration, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a host of apps available through the Google Play store. Of course, iPhone users are not left out, with CarPlay integration also possible (along with Android Auto).
Sound reproduction comes courtesy of an excellent 250-watt premium audio system featuring eight speakers and a unique front-mounted air woofer for improved bass response. It’s one of the better stock systems we’ve experienced. A wireless charging pad keeps your phone charged, with four USB-C ports (two up front, two in the back) available when you need to plug in.
Over-the-air updates keep the software current, while a driver profile system memorizes settings for up to six drivers. The system remembers seat and mirror positions, steering feel, and even one-pedal driving settings.
Options for the rear-drive Polestar 2 two come in two packages. The Pilot Pack adds adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist steering assist, and LED front fog lights with a cornering feature.
The Plus Pack adds a 600-watt 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic roof, water and dirt-resistant WeaveTech vegan upholstery, a tinted rear window, high-level interior lighting, and full power seats with power recline and 4-way power lumbar support.
An energy-saving heat pump, a heated steering wheel, heated washer nozzles, an air purifier, a hands-free foot-activated power liftgate, heated rear seats, and a digital key that turns your phone into a key fob are also included.
Ordering the Plus Pack opens the door to more options, such as ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery.
Twenty-inch alloy wheels are one of the few standalone options.

2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor: $55,300
Adding a second motor brings standard AWD, pushing total output to 421 hp. This upgrade drops the Polestar 2’s range to 276 miles and its 0-60 mph time to a fleet 4.3 seconds. Battery capacity is 78 kWh.
The dual-motor version has the same standard equipment as the single-motor Polestar 2, plus the contents from the Pilot Pack.
The Plus Pack remains an option, with a third Performance Pack option available only for the dual motor setup. When ordered, the pack increases horsepower to 455, reduces range to 247 miles, and returns a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.
The Performance Pack also brings more equipment, including 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo 4-piston front brakes, Öhlins Dual Flow Valve adaptive shock absorbers, a performance suspension, performance software, and Swedish Gold seatbelts.
