As luck would have it, the smart fortwo is going green for St. Patrick's Day. Smart USA has created four 3M vinyl wraps that celebrate the day. And it's not too late to decorate your smart car. The wraps can be installed in just a few hours… so goes the promise.
Are your Irish eyes smiling yet? The St. Patty-inspired designs come in Shamrock Sunshine, Irish Glen (white, emerald or black), Lucky You and Irish Plaid. And by the way, the smart fortwo already has green going for it. The car gets EPA-estimated 41 mpg highway, is 95% recyclable and has ultra low emissions as certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
This isn’t the first time that this leprechaun-sized car has dressed up for special occasions. The smart Expressions Program offers 94 different paint colors and a variety of eye-popping wraps including Confetti Swirls, Blue Camouflage and the popular Kite Flight.
To celebrate Hello Kitty's 50th birthday, smart offered a limited edition collection of bright pink, black and red wraps that featured the funky feline. For Valentine’s Day, smart profiled six sexy vinyls including Wrapped in Love and Heartthrob.
The latest iteration of the smart fortwo electric drive, Glitterball, is completely covered in reflective glass tiles with disco ball wheel caps and windows that have a mirror finish.
The one-off model was conceived by Apparatjik, a Berlin based group that dresses up in mirrored get-ups to perform avant-garde electronic music. For this show they will perform inside a large transparent cube. (Move over Lady Gaga – the meat dress just doesn't hold up to this!)
Glitterball is part of a global event. Smart is the official sponsor for the project by Apparatjik, consisting of world-famous musicians Magne Furuholmen of A-Ha, Guy Berryman of Coldplay, Jonas Bjerre of Mew and music producer Martin Terefe. Their Berlin based "Apparatjik Light Space Modular" features concerts along with an interactive installation that collects data to be turned into a piece of music. The ensuing song will be played in front of a show of images streamed out of a six-meter tall cube through the museum's glass walls into the city of Berlin. Apparatjik along with Glitterball will be performing live inside the cube in Berlin on March 26 and 27.
The disco vehicle will also be featured in the upcoming movie, Pixel City.
