Chevy recently unveiled an all-new version of its Colorado pickup truck in Thailand. The new truck hasn't been officially announced for the American market yet, but the Thai Colorado should provide a solid indicator of the direction Chevy will go with the US spec truck.

General Motors said it has taken five years and spent $2 billion in developing the new truck, which will go on sale worldwide later this month.

The new truck will be available in many different flavors: single, extended and crew cab bodies will be on the options list. Buyers can also pick their new truck's ride height, with low or high stance trucks available. The Colorado will even be available in either a narrow or wide body version. Factor in the engine options list and Chevy says there will be 26 different Colorados to choose from.

GM will offer two new Duramax turbo diesel engines in the global Colorado. The first is a 150-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and the second is a 180-horsepower 2.8-liter four cylinder.

Diesel motors have traditionally been more popular overseas, but it's not uncommon to see some in pickups stateside. Chevy won't say if the new motors will be coming to the US, and to be honest it doesn't sound all that likely. On the other hand, carmakers are taking different approaches all the time in the quest for fuel economy.

The styling was done at a design studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The global truck is build at GM's Rayong plant in Thailand, but the company is working out the details of some upgrades to a plant in St. Louis in order to build our next midsize truck.
